    Make it possible to use special characters in Xbox Gamertags


    Xbox Gamertags are a big part of our identity as players. Right now, the system only allows letters, numbers, and a few basic symbols. It would be great if players could customize their Gamertags with more special characters — like accents, symbols, or even emojis — to make them more unique and personal.

    Suggestions: – Allow characters like: @, #, &, *, ~, , +, =, and accented letters (é, ü, ñ, etc.) – Support Unicode characters for global personalization – Let players use emojis or icons in their Gamertags (with moderation filters) – Add a preview tool to check how the Gamertag looks across Xbox platforms – Ensure search and friend requests still work smoothly with special characters – Add filters to block offensive combinations while allowing creativity

    This would give players more freedom to express themselves and create Gamertags that truly stand out — especially in a global gaming community.

    Only if you have a gamertag with a suffix or special characters. If you have a unique gamertag that no one else has using standard characters, it'll show the same in all areas.

    The only way to not get the suffix is to choose a gamertag nobody else has and not to use special characters.

    Since you used a special character, your account will keep your old gamertag as well for use in areas that aren't updated to work with the newer gamertag policy.

    Does it look similar to your name here with the special characters? If so, that's why. The new gamertag policy allows special characters, but in games or areas that have not been updated to work with that, it will show your last gamertag.
