    Major Judder in Movies with VRR and ALLM enabled


    Why does the Xbox One X force all content (including streaming video) into ALLM and VRR? In the LG OLED its call Instant Game Response.

    Why does it matter? Games Look Great! Movies look horrible!!! Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, etc. All have major Judder and have no way to control it except by turning off Instant Game Response and VRR.

    Is Microsoft aware of this issue?

    Lol... Thanks but they don't know. It seems that when I disable VRR and ALLM from the TVs settings, it automatically unlocks the motion enhancement options. But if I enable VRR and/or ALLM either from my Xbox or the TV itself, then the motion enhancement setting disappears.

    Isn't VRR supposed to unlock higher frame rates?

    This is really confusing 🤣

    Sounds to me you have VRR enabled. Variable Refresh Rate works great in games, it's not so good with TV/movie steams or playing Blu-rays and DVD's. You'll either need to turn it off on the TV or the console before you stream or play BD or DVD discs on the console.

    If it's not a VRR issue it maybe the TV's game mode. Again, great for games, not great for video playback. You can get judder when watching movie streams with Game Mode on.

    Variable Refresh or Game Mode won't be running on the TV with the built in Smart Apps. Indeed, the smart apps should already be pre-configured for the best playback on your TV (i.e., no judder)

    How do I find the motion enhancement/anti judder option in my TV?

    Sorry, I failed to mention: I'm on SX and the TV is hdmi 2.1 capable.

    If I enable VRR, I can no longer use the motion smoothening, anti-judder feature so I need to keep that off and ALLM from the Xbox settings as well.

    I do have to lower resolution to 1440p to enable 120hz by using manual override instead of auto-detect. That's odd I think, as the TV should show the two refresh rates available but there's no refresh rate option at all just 4k uhd, 1080p and 720p. When I do the manual override thing, I don't see 4k uhd as a resolution option although the 60hz/120hz option below that pops up!

    Why is that though?

    Well, the LG page of that particular model makes no mention of VRR which would usually indicate it is not a feature:

    Edit: I have been looking around and none of the other NANO95 models have VRR either...the have ALLM (Auto low Latency Mode), not VRR

    VRR is supported via HDMI 2.1. The Xbox One X is the only console that has HDMI 2.1. Xbox One S has HDMI 2.0. This Fall 2020 the new Xbox Series X will also support HDMI 2.1 features like VRR, Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) and up to 120fps support.
