  1. Loyalty. Why bother?

For over 8 years I have been a loyal Xbox user and even had a stint as a customer service agent for the suport team in times gone by, but once again I'm left frustrated by the hardware failing through no fault of my own. My console tried and failed to automatically
download the recent Autumn update. I can't update it off line using a USB so now my console is stuck in a permanent loop of failed updates.

Now MS want me to pay €121 to fix a console that had zero issues with it until Monday last. No need to show loyalty by paying the top price for the Day One edition because it will just die like all my previous consoles. Why did I think it would be dinferential
    this time?

I loved the fun and entertainment the consoles have brought but I cannot justify paying out yet again for something that isn't my fault at all.

Rant over but another lost customer that you won't even notice or care about.

    Massively Disappointed

    Deli09

    :)

I am easily eligible for A free Xbox One, Yet I haven't received my E-mail yet.

Loyalty, loyalty loyaty. Why do you keep mentioning your loyalty? It had nothing to do with loyalty. That is what people are not understanding. And you favor a version of the giveaway that would reward you. Seems a little selfish

Sorry to hear that your unit is stuck in a loop while dl'ing the latest update.

That aside, no-one. Save politicians who need corporate lobbyist in order to win elections, should feel any loyalty to any corporation. However, those corporations should be loyal to their customers and at the companies expense, in warranty or yrs out,
repair any and all units that their updates may have bricked.

Disclaimer: No, corporations who fund politicians who go on to win elections does not mean that said legislators represent anyone other than those corporations who, whether currently in office or seeking it. "Bought them off."

I don't know why people on here play this loyalty game. Xbox is a hobby, not a cult. I use it because it makes me happy. Not just to blend in with everyone else.

  6. Yes it is a hobby and an expensive one at that. If I don't and others like me mention our disappointment with a productotal or service they provide when it fails how can things get better? If we all assume everything is fine then nothing changes. MS have
made strides over the years to make them easier to deal with but its still very annoying when my console stops working just because of an update. Glad you read the comments above and took that I'm trying to blend in. Good one mate.

Unfortunately, you picked the wrong place for MS to listen to your issues. Sorry for your problem, enjoy your console-cide.

Yes it sucks, but you’ve had it for nearly 4 years. I paid €500 on day 1, but if I had to pay 120 quid to get it fixed now I’d be annoyed, but wouldn’t expect MS to do anything for free even if it’s their fault......sort of.....

4 years was a good run.

I’d just bite the bullet and get it fixed.

  9. But in todays terms I think 4 year lifespan expectancy is really, really short.

If this were average of electronics today - we would have public demand for 5 year warranty on everything, I think.

I used own computers now for 32 years - and nothing has failed in 4 years from purchase.

Computer I write on now - 14.5 years old - and having repartition os disk two times(FAT table worn out), otherwise fine.

And all other home electronics I had for decades - like dvd players, hifi amps and other gear.

I had that for 20 years or more - and shifted just because of new technology - nothing that broke.

It's not normal to expect 4 years - especially when it comes to standard components like drives to fail due to update - this was a case 2-3 years ago on Xbox One, large number of people suddenly had optical drive issues after an update.

MS had them send in their unit for repair - but was this really hardware failure?

Hardware broke due to firmware update????

And this case with system update - what can make it fail suddenly - looping???

I know 360 has removal of last update - and you could do offline instead.

MS is not the only sinner, Sony had issues as UC3 was released and Naughty Dog forum was crowded with people having endless spinning ring issue, or PS3 broke - all after a system update. I got rid of PS3 after that - thinking Sony
has no clue what they are doing. they were forcing some updates due to PS Vita was released.

So when MS had this kind of issue as well, I waited another year(until last fall) to see if it went away.

But I certainly don't expect to replace it due to failure in a couple of years.

I might get X1X when it's been out for while.

Define "dinferential"? Loyalty. Why bother? :p

I've read your post a couple times but am still struggling with your issue. Did you buy a Day One edition or did you not? If you did, then it's obvious that the console has just broken down with age. If you didn't, then it appears you've had a good few years
with the console that was bought back in the day. In which case, why is repairing it even a thing when NEW Xbox One S's are dirt cheap to buy and you're almost assured of a better experience? Are you that **** that you need to cut the costs? If playing on
console is a priority, then what's the problem? Just ditch the broken machine and jump ahead! Problem solved Loyalty. Why bother? :)

  11. "Broke down with age."?

Not from my experences, from the 2600 to the Genesis straight on through to the Pro. I still have all my consoles, some are decades old and all still work flawlessly. Except the nes which often requires a healthy set of lungs to get games to play.

Not until the net and "Update required" have I even heard of the sorts of console failures that gamers are experencing today. .

  12. Dinferential was some crazy typo. Meant "different". My problem is that people seem happy to spend €500 on a console and that it's OK for it to be rendered useless because of a firmware update. I have smart tv's, Nintendo DS and 3DS that are still working
no problemore after 6 years. Why should my console be different? It wasn't misused or mishandled. It just stopped working due to an update.

    Loyalty. Why bother?

They are sending updates to brick your console just before the new console is released so that may just decide to upgrade. JK

    Some people actually think that.

Under Australian and New Zealand consumer law, which has guarantees which cannot be excluded by any contract, including a Microsoft contract, if someone buys an Xbox One X console and if the software is that messed up (or hardware), people have the right
to return to the retailer (or manufacturer) for a refund or replacement. Microsoft is also located in Australia and New Zealand too. If the software bricks the X console in it's warranty period, customers here can say "it's not working as advertised" and they'll
have the law on THEIR side. It also pays not to be in the Preview Program too. If you are, that's bad. Because it's unfinished software which can cause damage. It's happened before on Xbox One. It erasing everything on your console internal storage, etc etc.
If it were finished software, it would have been released to everyone, not just a few people who think they're special. A lot of people don't like the new UI update. I mean where seeing many people go out of their way to come on here or the official feedback
site to rant about how ugly the UI is and what have you.

As for customer loyalty, I don't make a big deal with it. I play Xbox for fun. But yes there could be times when they fail us, whether it be through a bad UI update or an unfair temporary or so ban, or when XBL goes temporarily down. Electronics aren't designed
to last forever. My Xbox 360 slim 250GB console from late 2010 is still working fine. My Day One Xbox One 500GB console with Kinect is still working fine. One of their major Windows 10 updates for PC stuffed up Hauppauge Capture software on my PC. Yes you
may end up crying sometimes, but sooner or later, you'll be able to get back up on your feet.

However I'll still be getting the Xbox One X as it will have better processing power, a lot more memory and faster hardware to bring out better visuals of the what will be over 100 Xbox One X Enhanced games that Microsoft has listed. It's also slimmer and
be able to play my favourite games with better visuals rather than blurry and poor anti-aliasing.

Yes, it's probably in calculations nowadays - that "we can always fix this later" - and they release stuff, not really fully tested.

If you made errors in hardware before internet days it was a bigger obstacle.

I had a digital piano in the 80's with bugs in firmware - I got a replacement EPROM and removed and resoldered on MB - not even in chip holder.

(I had some experience, so they let me instead of shipping a piano back and forth).

But really bad if manfactaturer blaim it on peoples hardware instead of recognize "ok we created this problem, and you should be compensated and no cost" - but now customers must replace units to get them working again.

I actually got a Flight simulator game as compensation in the 90's when I told MS about some awkwardness about their developer tools they were not aware of.

    - those were the days and when MS did everything to boost developement of software for Windows 3.x/95/98.
