  1. Losing HDR, accompanied by increased input lag

I posted about this previously I've discovered more info since then.

Two weeks ago my HDR went out. I tried resetting my TV, checked it for updates, check my Xbox for updates, did a hard reset, and none of this fixed it. I left it in instant on mode overnight and the issue was gone the next day.

About a week later it happened again, and this time I noticed that it was accompanied by a lot of input lag, both in games and in the dashboard. I tried all the same things again, but none worked. Then I went to the community tab and loaded up a screenshot, which had the option to show the HDR version. I hit that, and it fixed everything. HDR was working and the input lag was gone, with no console reset or anything.

Tonight the issue popped up again. This time I noticed the input lag first, while trying to play Modern Warfare. HDR was working though. I did a hard reset, and when I turned the console back on, the input lag was still there, and now the HDR wasn't working. I checked the TV status and it showed no HDR support. I viewed a screenshot and told it to show the HDR version, and it fixed the issue immediately.

I'm running an Xbox One X in the Beta ring, hooked directly into a TCL 6 series (no receiver).

edit: I submitted this as an issue on the console as well, each time that it has happened.

Setting your TV to a higher refresh rate increases lag because it increases processing. You are not magically making the input (the console) higher, you are adding extra frames into the refresh which gives the impression of a smoother picture. Yes smoothing
can make the picture appear to have less motion blur, but you are increasing lag while you are doing it: bad for gaming.

All modern TVs that I am aware of have a 'gaming mode'; this mode turns off all processing to reduce lag. If increasing the screen refresh rate (the smoothing trick) was better for gaming it would automatically be enabled in 'gaming mode'.

Input lag is the time between pressing a button and the screen reflecting that command. Adding more processing increases the input lag.

Looking for a 4K tv to work with Xbox one s

One major issue to look out for is that on a lot of 4K HDR TVs when using HDR the input lag is very high and therefore terrible for gaming, a lot of TVs won't even recognise HDR content in game mode!!

It's not an issue that requires resolving. It's just a simple reminder that Dolby Vision increases input lag. If it feels like the input lag is unbearable, just disable Dolby Vision for Gaming in the video modes menu.

    hdtv or gaming monitor

Input lag is the difference in time between when the signal is accepted by the display and when it is shown on the screen. Both HDTVs and monitors have some, but monitors tend it have less because of default settings on TVs increasing input lag. You can
set up a HDTV to have an unnoticeable amount of input lag.
