Im a pack a day smoker and cigarette smoke tends to leave a sticky/oily residue on walls, lampshades, and electronics that dust really clings to. I also happen to smoke a lot in the same room i use my xbox one. I have a fan in the window to draw out the
cigarette smoke, but over the past year or so, I think my xbox has kinda become congested with dust that has accumulated because of the oily cigarette smoke residue.

The reason i think this is because over the last few months my console has been over-heating more and more often. Especially during online gameplay or when playing games with complicated and dynamic graphics. I have tried to remedy this problem in various way
such as: moving it away from my tv to a flat, open desk; putting four small blocks under the console to let air flow underneath it; increasing air circulation in the room; and lately I’ve even resorted to placing a small, square window fan directly on top
of the console facing upward in order to draw more air through the internal exhaust fan.

This last measure has had considerable effect and reduced overheating. However, I’m worried that the increased airflow may be forcing the internal exhaust fan to spin faster or longer than it’s meant to. And that may cause long term problems.

I want to solve the problem completely by having a professional dismantle my Xbox One and clean out the dust and residue, but I have absolutely no idea who to turn to. I don’t have enough money to pay a tech support specialist like GeekSquad, my store bought
warranty has expired, and i don’t think the Microsoft warranty would cover this.

Who should I turn to? What should I do?

P.S. I apologize for the lengthy question. Im new at this.

    :)

if your Xbox is still under warranty and is overheating you should start a repair order with Xbox Support.

    sign in at
    https://account.microsoft.com/devices/
and select your Xbox then select
    Start a repair online.

"Should I just void the manufactures warranty and clean it myself?"

Don't open up the console, but you can still clean it. This helped me when I had a similar issue.

Turn off and unplug the console and vacuum (hoover) clean the ventilation holes on the sides of the console. Get up close with the hose and clean each vent.

You will notice a difference on a black console, a white console may not show the same result as dust is usually greyish.

Sorry if Im being somewhat defensive or rude. I dont mean to be. Its just that I’m not physically able to always smoke outside. I have a bad knee from a failed reconstuctive surgery. Torn tendons, damaged cartilage, and scar tissue make it too painful to
walk down a flight of stairs every single time i want a cigarette. Thats why I have a fan in my window. It draws the smoke and dust out of the room very well, just not enough to prevent long term buildup in inaccessible areas. Like the inside of my Xbox.

Do you know of any places that might offer console cleaning services nationwide? Or do u think Microsoft might do it if I contact them?

Should I just void the manufactures warranty and clean it myself?

    Any advice would be helpful.

Thats one of the first things i tried. In fact I’ve done that multiple times but unfortunately it never seems very effective. I think its because the build up of the sticky residue left by cigarette smoke over time is causing the dust to “stick” to the
internal surfaces. Ive considered using compressed air to blow the dust out instead of sucking it out, but I’m afraid the force of the compressed air might damage the delicate electronics.

Would it be covered even if the build-up of dust is ultimately my fault? I think my cigarette smoke has caused the dust build-up. If u think they’d cover this, I’m more than willing to try. I just didn’t know if anyone else has had success using the warranty
    for this kind of circumstance.
