Looking for a host for a community server

doesn't matter as almost no games are played on servers, and if they are they are almost never xbox servers, heck even halo is run off one of the players xbox's, that is why in halo, cod, and other games sometimes you see "host left looking for a new host"
or similar. but you will never see it in BF3 as it uses servers (those servers are hosted by EA iirc)

adding servers is nice, but it's not like suddenly there will be less lag in games as 99% of the time it's your internet or someone else's in the match that is ruining it.

P2P offers quick match making even if the game is no longer popular. But it also suffers from host advantage and host migration.

Dedicated servers offers a somewhat ideal situation to play in. There is no need for host migration since it's available 24/7 provided that there are open spaces available. There is the downside that if the community is drastically reduced, the servers may
get shut down and repurposed for another game.

I thought league play and matchmaking was going to be done by company owned dedicated servers with only community and private matches being peer hosted?

Dedicated servers also mean that no one player is host. The server is hosting. It doesn't scan for the "best" connection and connect other players to them, players connect directly to the server. Generally better for Matchmaking as having host can be an
advantage, crappy hosts suck, and casuals blame everything on host.

because with BF3 you pay a server hosting company to host the server for you. you can pay to host the bf 3 server, turn off your internet and people will still play...
