Long Time Xbox user lost due to MyVIP rankings change

Ive been playing xbox for many years, I had accrued a big gamerscore and a large MyVip ranking, to the point where i was close to getting the 10% rewards back from purchases. I had even bought items i already had digitally to raise the rankings, I was i
believe around 2-1% Left on obtaining this then one day i was dropped down almost 2 ranks just out of the blue, no emails, no warnings.

I had done some research and a week later found information on microsoft changing some things down from the MyVip. this disheartened me alot buying digitally but kept purchasing every so often but not at the intensity i used to. This got to the point where
i felt a little cheated out of purchases i had made and decided i didnt feel 100% comfortable purchasing over the odd priced items that could be obtained almost 10% more cheaper in the local gamestores or supermarkets.

This did annoy me more than i thought as I suddenly became disenfranchised with Gaming (money, time and family also a part of it) but felt after spending thousands upon thousands on my account it could be quietly changed or removed at any given moment. I
used to play my xbox every day for many hours after kids all went to bed, but due to things like the rewards it pushed the need to buy from the store down alot even feeling a renewal on my gold (that had a 18 month subscription left on it) was not warranted
due to lack of activity and the need to purchase digtial anymore.

I have logged on to my rewards today, first time in a while to find my Vip ranking has dropped even further and to the point where it can be changed each year .... so i could spend big all year to finally reach x10 rebate on purchases in december for it
to restart in January?

i feel i may be getting something wrong here but coming back online after months of not feeling the need to only to find this has left me further not wanting to renew gold or buy even more.

Currently, physical purchases like consoles are not eligible for MyVIP and will not increase MyVIP star ranking.

I played Sniper Elite 3, but never without the patch. A friend of mine who tried it said it was broken, unplayable garbage. Which is entirely believable considering the size of the patch.

 

Yes, VIP ranks change each year, on January 1. In order to maintain your level, you have to spend the same amount or more each year. So if you spend enough between January 1, 2017 and December 32, 2016, to reach level 5 and receive the 10%, your progress
would be reset to 0 but your starting star level would remain level 5. Over the next year, you would have to spend the same amount in order to stay at that level.
