    Hey everyone,

    after reinstalling Win10 on my SSD, I am trying to import my entire library (over 700 GB) from my HDD to the Game Pass.

    On Steam (or any other launcher for that matter) there is a very simple way to select a folder as your default library folder which automatically loads your games.

    I can't seem to find a way to do that with the Game Pass. I tried just reinstalling the games (hoping the Game Pass would recognize that they are already there) but that doesnt work either because I am not able to set my HDD as the default save location for
    new apps (error code 0x80070005).

    All other games installed on that hard drive work perfectly fine and I had no troubles importing them into their respective libraries.

    Does anyone have a solution for that? I don't want to format my hard drive and/or download all games again... thanks in advance!

    The error crops up because when you try to set the hard drive as default save location it tries to create a new 'WindowsApps' folder. However, it can not make this folder because it already exists and is protected from alterations due to its folder permissions.

    What you need to do:

    • Take ownership of the hidden WindowsApps folder on your hard drive -
      not the one on C:\ drive (your SSD).       The WindowsApps folder will be in the root directly of any other drive.
    • Once you have full access, delete the WindowsApps folder from this hard drive,

    Information on how to take ownership of WindowsApps folders can be
    found here    . Remember, in your case, you need to take permission of the old WindowsApps folder, which on a second hard drive should be located in the Root Directory of the D:\ drive.

    Once the folder is gone, try setting the hard drive as your new default location. All being well, Windows will create a new WindowsApps folder and you can start using it again.

    I kinda figured that I'd have to reinstall everything.

    Is there any way I can do this without having to format my entire 2 TB HDD, which contains many other games?

    As I mentioned above, I get an error code 0x80070005 everytime I'm trying to set said HDD as my default save location...which suggests that I either have to format it or change some settings?

    HI,

    I'm afraid downloading your games again is the only solution available. The Universal Windows Platforms (UWP) apps system - which also includes Xbox Game Pass for Windows - uses an form of encryption for security.

    I'm not sure exactly how the encryption works in Windows 10 Apps, but my guess is it is unique based on how or when you last installed Windows. Which means of course that you can't just add the folder back after a fresh install of Windows like you can with
    services such Steam or EA's origin. After a fresh re-install, Windows will see any old Windows Apps folders as foreign (from another PC).
