    i signed up tonight for xbox live membership but I wanted to use my free 2wk code first.

    can i cancel my membership immediately and use the 2wk code and then sign up monthly?

    If you signed up for more than a month then you could try contacting support
    support.xbox.com/.../contact-us     & they may sort something out for you.

    Personally i'd keep your subscription as the 14 day trial only gives you access to some gold features,not all of them.

    Do you mean an Xbox LIVE Gold membership card? If so, this is not required. An Xbox LIVE Free membership will keep all Achievements earned, a "premium" membership is not required with this.

    Just to add to above if you already have an Xbox Live gold membership then the trial code will not work until your current live membership expires. Once your membership arrives the code should then work.
