Legal name change... wanting to change my email associated with account!

Hey all,

I've had a legal name change, and so want to change the email that is associated with this account. I'm wondering if Xbox/Microsoft has helped anyone do that before and if it's possible? I don't want to get rid of this account per say, but I absolutely need
to get rid of the email address tied to it!

Atm my email is FirstnameOldlastname@email so naturally, I want to get rid of it. Can Xbox/Microsoft help me with that or am I doomed to just making a new account?

Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for advice on how to hopefully get your alias changed. I can totally understand any confusing experienced while getting this done.

If you had ever signed into Microsoft with the email you're aiming to use, a Microsoft account would have been created and it would give you that text in red. I suggest seeing if you can

recover that account if you want to try and use it. If you want to change your email and it's already in use by another account, then you would have to
close the account that is already in use first.

So I'm up to the part where it's asking me to change my alias...

but I'm being met with "This email address is already taken. Please try another one." The email that I'm using is my new email...? I'm so confused.

I'm not selecting the option to make a new email, just trying to add an existing email. Any insight?

Hey Mayden92!

The email that you created the Microsoft account will always be associated with the account because it's the email that created the account.

You can change the (primary) email that you use to sign into your Microsoft account. Once you've changed it, it'll always be the email that you will use to sign into your Microsoft account / Xbox profile.
