Left Joystick Problems Help

The left joystick of my 2nd gen controller just stops responding for a split second every couple of minutes. There is no sticking but there is a very, very slight drift upwards. I've had this controller for almost 4 years no
problems.

Thanks for your update! If you're going to clean your controller, please be sure to not open it in any way (removing screws/ prying) and to use an minimal amount of 90% isopropyl alcohol with cotton swabs or pieces with a microfiber cloth as well.

4 years is a nice lifespan for a controller. Chances are something might have gotten under the joystick. If you contact xbox support they can give you some locations to get the controller repaired. Another option is attempting to clean the controller
yourself. YouTube has a few videos.

Thanks everyone for the help! I hope to try cleaning it before attempting to repair it. It's a lot cheaper than buying a new controller so i just want to see if it will resolve my issue.

This has not worked and I was thinking about replacing the joystick myself instead of buying a new controller. Do you know if this would work?

You've had an amazing run with it if it has lasted 4 years. Something to consider is looking at settings in game. For example a lot of FPS games allow you to change the dead zones on your controller sticks which would combat the stick drift. It is possible
to change out the sticks on a controller. However inside is intricate and you could risk damaging something else. Also it depends which part is damaged, it might not be repaired by replacement. It could just be time for a new controller.
