Well, to run with the metaphor xD, this chef previously was considered basically a 5 star chef. He created delicious meals and ran an acclaimed restaurant, and you still have faith that he can create something great to fix his turd frosted cake. You hold
on to hope that the turd frosted cake was simply a fluke.

As a chef and owner of a catering business, I would suggest that not everyones pallet is qualified to be able to assess the quality of the ingredients used to create a wonderful dish. You may like the taste of it but you haven't the knowledge of how that
kitchen makes such good food.

As I said nobody on the forums is qualified enough to pass judgement on acquisitions to the Xbox Game Studios. Your analogy isn't a fantastic one.

This recipe is sold by chefs when your Provision skill line is high enough and you get this dish as part of a Writ quest.

Although if I were to be a stickler about the whole metaphor aspect, the Dog turd at the bottom is the much better analogy. lol If I see turd frosting I'm not trying the cake to start, but if I've already eaten 2 tiers and find the turd at the bottom... well,
now it's time to throw up... and make sure I'm aimed at the chef when I do it.

If you're looking for a Chef's hat, all you have to do is seduce and marry the Chef in your Castle. He will then gift you the Chef's hat. That's how I got mine and my friend's got theirs.
