Latest Xbox controller update breaks bluetooth.

As the title says , I updated my Xbox Series S/X controller on windows through the Xbox Accessories App. I rarely use the controller and been enjoying some Monster Hunter Rise since it came out on Gamepass. It was working perfectly fine until 2 days ago when I decided to update my controller.

Big mistake , it now disconnects multiple times per monster fight and takes 10+ seconds to reconnect. My friend has this issue since day 1 and when my issue started I asked him and he confirmed that he updated his controller before the game release. He never had any issue with his controller before doing the update , just like me.

The Microsoft website ( https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-network/accessories/controller-firmware-reversion ) has instructions on how to downgrade the firmware but when we try it only says " Something went wrong - Your controller is already up to date. "

My controller is now useless unless I keep it plugged in when playing which is not a acceptable solution long term.

Any way to factory reset the controller ? Microsoft should really implement a revert firmware option on their Xbox Accessories app on windows.

I am afraid there's no option to factory reset a controller's firmware. Let's try the steps below.

Please connect your controller to your PC using USB cable.
Open the Xbox Accessories app.
Once in the Xbox Accessories app, press Windows Key + R to open command line, and enter the following command:

xboxaccessories:\\firmwareupdate?legacyDowngrade=true

That should allow you to downgrade your controller's firmware.

I appreciate your effort. This is not the situation I want you to be in. Since the issue happened after the update, it's possible that it's the update that triggers the issue.

Please make sure to get the latest updates of your Windows and if possible, install the optional updates.

Alternatively, please try to use your controller using a different PC if it does the same thing to further isolate the issue.

If you could not downgrade your controller's firmware using a different PC, our best option here is to report the issue using the Feedback hub on your Windows machine so the Xbox/Windows team will be able to investigate the issue properly.

Thanks for trying. I guess it doesn’t work on your Windows. Another workaround is to try downgrading it using a different PC or Xbox console.

What we can do now is to try to find solution on how to fix your bluetooth problem of your Windows and controller.

First, let’s try to remove your controller in bluetooth devices and pair it again.
