    Latency Variation's and high ping despite seemingly good internet


    Hello, I recently have encountered issue where I have very high latency variation across all games. It happened seemingly overnight and have tried all sorts of things to resolve the issue. I tried Nat type changes, advanced network settings changed, MAG type changes, even going as far as a factory reset on the console. Nothing works. I went from having 20-30 ping one day, to rubber banding at up to 300 ping the next. (It seems to get worse the longer the Xbox is on, but still lags even after a power cycle). The wifi has always been very consistent and I am on a wired connection. The internet has been tested and rebooted multiple times and always comes up to be running very well, around 9ms of ping. I don’t want to jump to a conclusion of a hardware issue (it may be something internet related I missed for example), but I don’t know what else to do. The Xbox is the only device having this issue in the household, despite changing the Ethernet ports supplying it and trying a wireless connection.

    We understand you are experiencing high latency variation across all games. This can be very frustrating, and we appreciate your patience and troubleshooting efforts.

    There are a few possible causes for this issue, such as network congestion, interference, or hardware malfunction. To narrow down the problem, we suggest you try the following steps:

    1. Clear Persistent Storage: Go to Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear. Then select System > Settings > devices and streaming > blue ray > persistent storage > clear three times, then restart your console.

    2. Soft Reset the Console: Go to Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info and choose Reset console.

    Reset and keep my games & apps. Use this option as your primary choice when troubleshooting. It resets the OS and deletes all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps.

    In some cases, if a corrupt game file is causing the issue you're troubleshooting, you may have to choose Reset and remove everything, but you should always start with Reset and keep my games & apps.

    • Please note that your console will be reconfigured and you will have to add your account again, so it’s important that you know your account emails and passwords before continuing. No games or apps will be deleted, nor will you lose game progress as they are saved to the Xbox Cloud.

    3. Open Ports on Router: You could also try calling your internet service provider and ask them to open the following ports on your router:

    • Port 88 (UDP)
    • Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)
    • Port 53 (UDP and TCP)
    • Port 80 (TCP)
    • Port 500 (UDP)
    • Port 3544 (UDP)
    • Port 4500 (UDP)
    4. Disable and Enable UPnP: Ask your ISP to disable and then enable again the UPnP function on your router.

    5. DMZ Zone Configuration: Ask your ISP to put your console’s IP in the DMZ zone configuration.

    6. Try using a different Ethernet cable or a different port on your router or modem. Sometimes the cable or port can be faulty or damaged and affect the connection quality.

    Low Ping Signal and Constant Lagging

    Low ping = good.

    The 'bar' is not ping, it's the general quality of your internet connection, and a latency timer. The higher the latency, the higher the ping, the worse the connection is, the lower the bar will go. I'd do a speed test on an internet browser to see if it's
    your internet connection or not.

    Ping is a signal sent from one computer to another. The time that ping takes to make it's trip we call latency (quality). So a high ping latency will cause lag. The good news is this is very rarely down to a fault with your Xbox. The problem will be with
    your ISP or your internet equipment such as your router.

    There are several things you can do to try and rectify a high ping. You can start by turning off your router and unplugging all cables from the back of it. Leave it for 5 minutes and then plug it all back in.

    Get back to me if that doesn't help and we'll try some other stuff :)

    Sat internet has high ping so your latency will be pretty bad for the most part I used to have sat internet, and let me tell it can get pretty bad.

    Since Battlefield 1 uses Electronic Arts servers, you need to contact the Electronic Arts support for that issue.

    You say your PC works fine, and other games don't appear to have the same amount of high ping, I'm assuming it is an isolated problem with the Battlefield service.

    I thought that may be the case, but its not limited to BF1 unfortunately. Just happens that I play that more than anything else currently.

    My xbox still shows up with a high latency (with a wired connection) after running the detailed network statistic option.

    I've currently contacted EA, and lets hope its on their end, but none of my mates seem to be having the same issue.
