Actually faulty disc drives in xbox ones is a fairly common issue,especially the earlier models.

It was covered in the press over here in the U.K. but we have better consumer laws than a lot of other countries.

I joined Xbox late 2010 with an Xbox 360 slim console, and it's still going well today. I have an original Xbox One console which I will sell and replace with Xbox One X which I'll be getting November 7.

Xbox consoles brought new from an authorized retailer, come with a 12 month warranty as standard. That is a reasonable warranty period. Electronics fail. They aren't perfect. Manufacturers put a reasonable warranty and governments (especially New Zealand
and Australia) have consumer protection laws regarding consumer products and the expectations on how long the should last and how well they should perform.

However warranties don't last forever. That would be really unfair for the manufacturer. No electronics are perfect. They'll eventually fail. Get a PS4. It will suffer hardware failure in the future. But then again PS4 Pro will be weaker in terms of hardware
specs, compared with when Xbox One X comes out.

I have a 15 year old PS2 in the cupboard thats went through alot more than my xbox one and its still going strong. Never had a problem with it. I find electronics in the cupboard i havent seen in years and they still work.

Xbox need to sort it out their problems and stop charging people money for consoles that in a couple of years may or may not work.

Electronics nowadays are more advanced than they were then and there is more that can go wrong.

Even the ps3 and ps4 are nowhere near as reliable as the ps1 and ps2 was. I've had both my ps3 and ps4 break down but my 20 year old playstation 1 I have in the attic still worked when I tried it a few months ago

Best way to sell more digital content is through the planned obsolesce of optical drives. Once consumers begin distrusting optical drives, they'll be a run on digital. Only no-one will get trampled during said run.
