Language/localisation problem for Fallout 3 from Marketplace. 2nd attempt.

Hello,

I am a resident of Belgium in the Flemish region, so my native tongue is Dutch.

My locale settings on my XBOX 360 are English for language an UK for location, just to be sure all my games are in English.

My Xbox menu is part English, part Dutch, details for Games are in Dutch, some adds come in French. But I can live with that, as long as the games are in English.

I recently bought the Pip-boy edition for Fallout 4 (English version), which comes with a code for the free version of Fallout 3.

But since I don't have an Xbox One yet, I was going to use the Free Code for Fallout 3, to DL on my XBOX 360.

After the DL, I started the game and to my surprise it was in French.

No choice possible in the game to change the language.

So I thought that Marketplace was confused and believed I lived in the French region of Belgium.

After some searching on the Internet, I decided the only possible way to get the correct language was to move my account to the UK.

Once this was done, the game still started in French, so it was a pure French version.

I removed the game, and started the DL again.

Unfortunately the DL stops at 80% and immediately starts again at 0%.

I've several times cleared the cache of my harddisk, rebooted the XBox, moved games from my harddisk to an external USB-disk, but still the same problem.

Maybe it doesn't allow me to DL the English version, since I already unknowingly downloaded the French version, but there is no message at all that indicates this.

In the meantime, I almost reached my Monthly Internet Volume, so I will not do anymore attempts, unless I am 100% sure.

I believe XBox Live/Marketplace had a problem with my Locale settings. When I set Language English in the Xbox, then everything should be in English and not mixed with Dutch and French, be it for Menus, Adds, and most important, Games.

Can you solve this for me, Microsoft?

You have to select whatever is your region

Games are rarely published in multiple languages in game I know of only one

This is standard practice due to licensing laws

If there is a Dutch version or a French version you will see it displayed on your console marketplace usually Dutch or fr for french or on the rare cases english

Doesn't matter on ms actually what is available to you

It's both the government and publishers that decide what content is allowed in you're region

If they feel like publishing to 99% of the populations In your region that's their right

If they don't feel like publishing to 1% of the populations for english remember they are also paying licensing fees for every region they publish in

 

Follow up. I have also submitted this problem at Bethesda.

 

I have just had a chat with Xbox support.

Changing my account to another region was probably a mistake on my side.

So, I have to wait 3 months to change it back. Bummer.

Xbox support believes the error is at Bethesda. (I have my doubts)

Since I opened a ticket at Bethesda 2 days ago, I'm anxious for their answer.

My Question:

I have bought the pip-boy release of fallout 4. After downloading the free Fallout 3 game on XBOX 360, the game was in French, although I am in Belgium, Flemish, so Dutch-speaking. I want an English version of the game. Can You help?

Had another Chat session with Xbox support. Some ambiguous info here.

Xbox does not provide codes for Games, but the Bethesda support suggests, that I get a new code from Microsoft.

Xbox support says that if my language setting is in English, the game should also be in English!!

Anyhow, only solution is that I purchase the game and I will be refunded.

Since I am now on a UK account, I'm sure the game will be in English, but what if I go back to my Belgium account in 3 months. Wait and see.

Again. Bummer. When I go to the Game section and search Fallout 3, I don't have the option to purchase it, just "download again". I know where this leads to. Starting to look Kafkaesque.

 

Had another session with a friendly Xbox support person. So, in conclusion, setting language to English should indeed got me the English version. Now I'm going to get back to Bethesda for a new redeem code and dig through some Bethesda forums.

Is your Xbox 360 currently set to English? If it is not, we would recommend setting your system to run in English, as the game will always try to run in the language native to the system it is being played on. If the language is not supported, then it will
default to another language.

Hi ! Same problem here but in Switzerland... I live in the french part and the game came in german... Changing my xbox language to english or back to french didn't help... It looks that its our fault to live in more than "1-language" country...

I'm currently waiting on xbox chat to get a refund... let me know if you found another solution !

 

Hey dude, know that feeling..,

A year or two ago I bought this game on the xbox 360, me also being a flemish belgian, had the same problem.

I made a post about and long story short, they told me to read the tiny statement in the description of the game, that said it's only supported in French in our country.

This is utter ignorance, the case that even xbox one achievements still pop up in French and you can't change anything about it shows how lacking the support and testing is in Belgium.

60% of this country is flemish, not French!

It's sad but it seems they don't want to make any effort in changing this ignorant mistake.
