lag issue with xbox series s

x Y E 3 T x · Jan 22, 2022

hey, so i (as stated) have a series s with some pretty bad lag/latency issues. it affects pretty much every online game i play; rocket league is the worst, to the point its nearly unplayable at times, rainbow six siege has lots of spikes on my console and so does halo infinite and every other multiplayer game i play. it really seems like some network problem, but i have a pc and a ps4 that i use in the same room and they generally work fine. my friends where i live have similar wifi to mine and one of them has the original xbox one and none of them have any issues with this as much as i do

is there any way to fix this?

:)

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing lag and frame rate issues on your Xbox Series S. Here are some possible solutions you could try:

Switch to a different graphics mode: Next-generation games typically offer two graphics modes: one for a higher resolution and one for a higher frame rate. Try switching to another graphics mode and see if that helps.

Restart the Xbox Series S: As with most electronic devices, a simple restart may be the easiest solution; restart the console to see if that helps.

Make sure the Xbox Series S is adequately cooled: Both Xbox Series X and Series S consoles use fans to keep the consoles cool. A hot console may underperform, so you need to make sure there are no heat issues.

Free up space on the Xbox Series S SSD: SSDs perform best when there is 10-20% free space as a general rule. If the Xbox Series S SSD is too full, it might be a good idea to uninstall some games.

Check your monitor or TV: A possible FPS drop and lag issue on the Xbox Series X|S might not involve the console at all. If you see low FPS with all games, the problem could be with your TV; Connect the console to another TV or monitor and see if the problem persists.

Check if the FPS loss and lag on the Xbox Series X|S occurs with other games: Not all games are programmed the same. If the problem occurs with only one game, it could be due to one or more problems with that game.

Funny how I haven't had this issue on my xbox one x ever but when I go on my xbox series S then it just starts having the lag spike issues with my captures.

And it still lags but my wifi works with other devices including a different xbox series s

Thanks for contacting us my name is Samy, I am advisor independent and I will be helping you today.

How are you, Matthew?

If you are using the console connected via wireless I recommend connecting with an ethernet cable.

I also recommend calling your ISP and setting a fixed IP for the console and opening those network ports.

Port 88 (UDP)

Port 3074 (UDP and TCP)

Port 53 (UDP and TCP)

Port 80 (TCP)

Port 500 (UDP)

Port 3544 (UDP)

Port 4500 (UDP)

Also ask to put the IP of the console in the DMZ zone, if you need additional ports this function will take care of that.

Hello x Y E 3 T x,

Thank you for reaching out to us about your issues!

Based on what you were saying, below we have provided two links to two different articles on the Xbox support website related to your issues:

1. Troubleshoot your network connection speed | Xbox Support

2. Troubleshoot NAT errors and multiplayer game issues | Xbox Support

The first link will have 9 troubleshooting steps that can help solve the slow speed issues you are experiencing. We believe that following these steps will help but if you find that they don't or you see that you're having NAT type issues after running a network test, then we suggest following the steps in the second link.

If you have any questions about any of the steps, please let us know and we will try to provide as much clarity as possible.

Looking forward to hearing back,
