Kinect 2.0 for Xbox One S cables chewed up - do I have to buy a new Kinect?

It is possible for your to send your Kinect Camera to Microsoft for repair using
this link however I would advise to speak with the
Xbox Support team prior to arranging a repair of the camera to check if it is something that Microsoft will be able repair for you and also if the repair is economical from your point of view.

Apparently it also means the people who used to hook up the old Kinect to their PCs for fiddling won't be able to do it with this new one, at least not without voiding the warranty entirely. xP Fortunately, you will be able to buy an entirely new Kinect
2.0 for your computer as well.

The Kinect cable is built in at the Kinect End, and has a Special Built connector at the other (The end in the X1/360). So you will not be able to detach it from the other end.

And while it is no different from any other A/V rig, it does have some differences. If your HDMI gets chewed or broken, you normally have spares, i know i do, loads, or you just pop to the shop to get one. At no more than a fiver.

Whereas, if the cable gets damaged on the Kinect 2 (or the Kinect dies), there is no current going out to buy a new one, they are not sold separate, as they will be included in every machine and are mandatory. You will be at the mercy of what Microsoft want
to charge, as your X1 will be a brick until you get a new one.

I do not care for tin foil hat issues, i care that if it gets damaged you are at the mercy of the company, for what may cost in excess of £100 to replace.

Yes, it's a huge PITA. I have my Kinect 1.0 sitting on my centre speaker, under the screen. I have an active USB extension cable to run from the sensor to my equipment rack. Works perfectly.

The kinect 2.0 cable is WAY too short. There currently is no extension available, with only vague promises of support in the future. I have my Xbox One in my rack, with the kinect 2.0 cable hanging in the open and just reaching my front right tower, where
the sensor sits. Ugly and I hate it, but it works.
