Kid Account while there is no parent account?

Dear Microsoft forum people,

I wanted to change my Xbox Live setting because it said I can't do online multiplayer because of my privacy settings.

However, whenever I click the link to change these settings I get redirected to a page on how to change settings for your child.

The problem is, I didn't even had a clue I was a child account. This has never set up on purpose.

My question is, how can I see what the parent account is?

P.S: I tried to contact support but it gets stuck at Step 2

Switching accounts

I have a parent account and kids account. I stopped playing on the kids account and used the parent account for around 3 years. I want to separate the parent account and kids account so I could only use the kids account which will be turned into an adult
account. All of the games are digitally downloaded on the parent account. There are no disks. Is there any way that I could get all of the games/dlc/apps that I paid for on the kids account after separating them?

It should always be on the parents but thats a problem now a days. It seems like many Parents just either cant control their kids, dont know how, or dont want to.

Some parents dont monitor anything their kids do and its sad when youre in public or reading comments for something, or gaming and you see/hear kids cursing a storm calling people an N word and generally acting like an ass.

Take for instance those kids in Florida recently who took video and laughed while a man drowned. That is a lack of parenting on a major scale. They didnt have to try to save the guy people drowning can be dangerous but call for help, show some empathy, be a human being.Click to expand... Still i dont think laws should be put in place to make lack of personal responsibility acceptable. I have 3 kids, and 2 play xbox regularly, their accounts have the parental setup, they cant voice chat when online and they cant make any purchases. its also setup to notify me if they try. I have had 0 issues with my kids playing overwatch, minecraft and roblox. So yes i agree some parents just dont care but that is not a publishers or MSFT/SNY fault.

It's great that you want to make such an amazing gift for your friend's grandson.

While others already described how to remove your account, please help your friend make an account for himself (an adult account), and a separate (child) account for his grandson.

Some (grand) parents make the mistake of using their own adult email account and let the kid play with that.

However, by using their own adult account for the kid, the kid is regarded as an adult for the console, and the parent is unable to prevent the kid from talking to internet strangers for example, or limit the playtime. Also, this prevents the kid from going
on an (accidental) shopping spree, and buying stuff from the Xbox Marketplace with the parent's credit card or bank account.

So please advise your friend, that when they create an account for his grandchild, that he (or the father of the kid) should create their own adult Microsoft Account and then a separate child account (by giving the kid's actual birthdate during account creation).

After the child account is created, the parent should then go to
https://account.microsoft.com/family and add the child account to their family.

That way, the parent can set permissions and privacy options to make the Xbox a safe place to play.

Additionally, this avoids later issues, where the kid would be able to access the parent's email or other Microsoft Services, if the parents let the kid play on their account. Later, you can't move the kid's gaming account away from the parent email account,
without the parent's Microsoft Account being deleted.

So your kids have a child account or an adult account? They can only change settings if they account was setup as a parent account or they know the parent account password.

you say they are playing under your microsoft account, they in fact all need their own accounts.

create 3 new accounts for the kids and as they are kids it will ask for an adult account, then it creates a family with your account being the parental one.

this will give you parental controls over theirs and they can all play then.

You could always just change your gamertag to something your son would want and just gift him the account. ...

This might circumvent parental controls the parent has set up for the kid and make the kid a full grown adult that can't be controlled or restricted on the Xbox anymore.

Also, the kid will then have control over the Microsoft account, meaning the kid can access the parent emails, OneDrive storage and anything else associated with the account.

So do NOT do that.
