Just one man's review/feedback

My guild mates asked for my opinion on the game. I found that once I got started I couldn't stop. I thought I would post it here as a note to the makers of the game. Not that it would lead to anything, but it makes me feel better to give them a piece
of my mind. Not that I can spare many pieces, anyway, below is my review:

I got it for Xbox One. This is based on multiplayer only. I have not played the campaign.

The maps are beautiful, small, but really well done. I love the customization, leveling system, and supply drops (give you gear and/or weapons with different stats). The customization is awesome, you can literally add or subtract anything, its great.

Outside of that, the game stinks. First off, its NOT Call of Duty. It has become Halo with bullets. Exo suits enable double jumping, cloaking, extra health and other stuff. If I wanted to kill someone on a pogo stick, I'd play something else. The weapons
aren't real world ones. When you say you are using an AK, everyone knows what you are talking about. Full auto **** rifle with a lot of kick. AK-47 has a mystique about it. BAL-27 is what exactly? The kill streaks are futuristic things that ... I don't know
how to describe it, but its just not the same. Being in an AC-130 popping off 50 cal rounds is exciting. Driving a predator into a group of enemies is fun. Controlling a laser from space ... blah, its okay

Its 2014, right? So how on earth does the most successful video game franchise of all time not have their own dedicated servers? Its horrible. The Lag is killing the game. So much so that me and my friends went back to playing Destiny last night. The video
below describes what I am talking about. Notice how many hit markers the player got vs what was on the kill cam. It happens all the time. Think you turned a corner and are safe, nope. You died in the middle of the other room. Think you have the advantage
of being behind someone? Nope, he's actually facing you and firing. 1 on 1 battle with your sub machine gun out, its on ... oh but wait, you're dead. No red screen, just instant dead. Aaaah, but the kill cam shows you were hit 6 times. Last night I started
1 game at 0-8 and literally had hit markers on everyone that killed me, but didn't register one kill. Its incredibly frustrating.

They put back the connection indicators, but not at the lobby level. Only once you are in the game can you see it. Either they are bugged, or the connections are horribly bugged, or both because the connections are all over the place and change from second
to second. I can look and see I have 4 bars. Then I'll go to 1. And before you think it, its NOT my connection. Let me repeat, it is NOT my connection. My internet is my precious. I pay for the best connection possible because I need it for my job, or at
least that's what I tell the wife.

The maps are beautiful, but way to small. As a result, its leading to horrible spawning. I have been shot right as I spawned and killed in the back by a player that I just killed. Again, its very frustrating because you can't establish a front. With other
versions, sometimes you get maps like that and you know what to expect. Variety is nice. But in this game, every map is like that.

They said that they were going to eliminate quick scoping. I'm here to tell you it didn't happen.

Foot steps - You cannot hear anyone else's foot steps. Your own footsteps are loud and clear. Actually its so loud you sound like a biggest loser contestant wearing wooden shoes. And you also make a noise when aiming your own gun. You are a bull in a China
shop, everyone else is a stealthy cat.

IMHO ... As a consequence of the lag and the spawning, more people are quitting games early. As a result, you WILL join games that are almost over more often. Again, its very frustrating to join a one sided game that is 3/4 the way over. Last night I joined
a game, got killed right as I spawned, I respawned and the game was over. Good times.

On the mini map, why is your indicator the same color as everyone else's? except those that are in your party? For example, me and 3 of my friends are partied up. We join a match. My friends show as gold triangles on the minimap. The other people that are
on my team but not in the party are blue triangles. My personal indicator is a blue triangle. Gets confusing at times.

Speaking of parties. It can be a challenge to group up. Again, its frustrating.

Their notification system is bugged. You will get them over and over. I can get by by going into the notification and selecting decline. But I have had friends that have had to shut them off.

As someone that has bought and played every version since COD2, this is without a doubt the worst version. Furthermore, I will not be purchasing another one. Tonight I will be playing something fun and less frustrating.

Stopped reading after "My guild mates." Reminds me of the Southpark WOW episode.

 

Didn't read word for word but got the gist of what you're saying. I agree with most.

Most (...those who voice their disgust) of us suffer some sort of lagging. I expect that at the beginning of most launches. Which you can blame on mass consumers. I was under the impression COD was declining (consumer complaints) and anticipated a less
laggy experience. Obviously i don't know enough about the causes of lag or wants of dedicated servers.

Lag related frustration aside; my dislikes for the game are;

Lack Auto-AR's. -- We have 3 (Ghosts had....8?). The supply drops are just the same weapons with minor tweaks and camos. I prefer to see those tweaks in skins and sound. Sounds petty, but 3 jsut seems small. Having said that, i am a total Burst / Single
Shot Rifle player. I am glad they gave us 2 burst weapons. Although i feel like they are severely underpowered, esp against autos. It was nice having 4 single shots in Ghost, the MK14 in AW feels gimped. These weapons also prove very challenging against
the exo suits. They are much better suited for tradition non-jumping play.

Jumping - its a nice addition and takes some getting used to, but i can live without it in COD. I'll be waiting impatiently for MW4 or BLops3. I know they have "classic" maps, but these maps are made for exo suits. They just feel too....clean(?) and tall.
I prefer the ground fights or fights for the high ground.

Create a Class - I hate (loathe) the "Do X amount of times to unlock X" and the 1 prestige token to unlock 1 item. I definitely prefer to Ghost way. Let me unlock the items first that i want to unlock or spend "squad points" on. And the Challenges on
for some camos are ridiculous.

Quickscoping - i'll say it. I f'n hate it. If my bullet pumps marshmellow and you have a one shot kill, and both our bullets hit, how do i win those close quarter battles with my SMG over your Sniper rifle? And don't give me the BS, it's harder. It's
not, if anything, i looks easier judging by the killcams i've seen. Nothing changed if you use the more, if anything, you don't even have to put the scope up all the way, it's more of a no scope / hip fire / quickkscope. FU SH!

I hope a lot more people drop the game and hope the lag goes away soon. Let's hope the "hopping" stops with AW. I wasn't one of those people to complain about the games being the same. They are what they are. If you want complete change you get AW (which
is nice), but it's not how i want things moving forward.

My 2 cents - anyone know when the next COD comes out?

 

The lag is the number 1 thing. And some always benefit from it. Just looking at wins/loses, k/d, etc. you would think either of my sons was better than me. Not the case. But on live not sure what it is. They just get that advantage. Seems they get
kills where they should have died a lot. At least from watching them play. Of course they know it is true and will admit it. My son had 30 kills and a few deaths. He was taking a lot of shots but getting 1-2 shot kills. Makes his ammo last longer. Online
I have to use a whole clip generally for 1 kill. Hit markers to the head and chest the whole time.

And it sucks to play against some people an do well for 2 matches. Then have the third match, same people, turn to all lag. No way to compete so I die repeatedly without a chance. If the lag fixes then things go back to normal and I can recover to some
extent. If not, well I may just die 12-15 times with 1 kill.

And I have said this other places but 1 match, only 1 so far for me, I was almost invincible. I took 2 clips before dying. I stood still and let the guy shoot me. I did this because I realized I should have been killed the 2 previous times. Sure enough
the player was there and shooting me but I was barely taking damage. And the next person put 2 clips into me and I just put a burst of a couple round and they died. I am sure it looked like cheating to them as I stood still. And it felt like cheating even
though I was not. Luckily it only happened once and I did let myself die a few times if the player got the drop on me. Very boring match that was.

 

@Guerrero, like Iv'e said in the past, nothing more aggravating when you are playing against the same people for a few matches and you go from kicking butt to getting wrecked. I accept when someone is better, more power to them and it would only help me
increase my skill level but not this back and forth shenanigans.

[/quote] First off OP I 100% agree with your entire post. Second I will not stop playing the game but will not go as hard as I have for the past two COD installments. I have noticed small issues and LAG COMPENSATION is not a small issue but after years of
playing cod, I have realized that the first two months and a week or two into the DLC maps is the time that LAG COMPENSATION is mostly noticed and annoying. Now with that being said I just equip myself now with classes that can help my MP gameplay be less
LAG COMPENSATED EFFECTED.

I play smarter not harder. I use choke points and spawn locations to my aadvantage. I circumnavigate the other team which means spending more time early in matches setting up my tactical advantage. Noticing where the cluster of enemy players tend to group
up and setting up across from them and picking them off. Knowing when to stick and move, while having the proper kill streaks. When it comes to sound I did notice that footsteps are low but can be heard so to find another way of locating gamers I look for
their exo suit blast indicator on my mini map. That red circle is like a blue light to fly for me. Zzzzzzzzzap goes the enemy.

I did notice last night that your team mates character gives away your position when they scream out loudly where they been hit and they even say something like I'm reloading over here (Ilocation), I was like WHAT! I get it the game is not exactly great
and it does have flaws, like my XBOX ONE digital version has caused my XBOX to first freeze then make a loud buzzing sound for like 10 seconds and sometimes longer and then restart, or go to the dashboard, or completely just freeze and nothing works but unplugging
the XBOX! I am at my wits end so I just hooked up my entire gaming setup back on the 360 at 1am this morning and had no issues with that digital copy of the game. It has not been a good COD SLEDGEHAMMER by themselves with no help making this version of the
game on the XBOX ONE.Very frustrating so far. I barely have 3 hours into the game. Every time I get on there seems to be a hiccup. Well I'm off to play right now on the 360, to scared to deal with the XBOX ONE BS!

 

Lag is really bad for me.upgraded my internet service for nothing.Halo out next week..i thought Ghost was bad..

 

I agree with the op 100%. Its a fun game but the lag, quick scoping next to ruin the whole game. I hope they do something to fix their net code soon

 

I was a die hard fanboy of cod once. After mw3 i became tired of the whole series, one for the same old lag comp system the series has had since cod 2. I didn't change for AW either, if anything the lag comp is worse. My ping is usually between 20 and
30 m/s and I always have 3 or 4 bars. I did a test with a friend in private match and found that this game is terrible for around the corner kills and many other things that the series has been getting worse with. I setup 2 tv's and 2 xbox's and me and my
friend played side by side.

1) just with two people in the lobby

2) I could peek at my friend around the corner and pop back around the corner and my didn't even see me unless I paused for a few seconds.

3) When my friend was running I had to aim behind him in order for a hit to count.

4) when I was running my friend had to aim ahead of me to hit me.

5) We stood facing each other and I shot him and killed him with one burst of my ak-12

6) My friend shot me with the same weapon and it took the entire clip to kill me.

You see the problem with the quake lag comp engine. Quit using it, go to dedicated serviers!

So I get into a lobby with my 28 m/s ping and start playing ffa. When the game started I noticed that 7 players have 3 or more bars and one individual has 2. The 2 waxed the floor with us every time I got in a face to face battle I and everyone else lost.
I feel like my character can't kill nothing and it takes an entire clip to kill someone.

And other times I get online and can play fine, when this happens I usually win or finish top 3. This only happens once a week all other times its lag and I finish next to last. This is why I got rid of this crap and moved on. Cod is dead.

And what is the deal with no search preferences? I search for a game now and I get into a match with people speaking in German or French! I'm on the east coast not Europe.

 

DAM right Red KillMachine!!! I am old enough and gamer experienced to allow myself to go off the deep end after matches of going even or positive by five or negative five because of lag comp.

 

Apart from the lag and the god awful spawns i'm actually enjoying the game.CTF plays well with these suits on.

 

I tried uplink and that mode is pretty fun, doesn't feel like COD.

 

Lag is horrible, I've been trying to figure out how to open my NAT on the Xbox One ever since the first day. It would switch to strict and when I do the steps again, back to moderate. Granted the lag could be on my end but at least it's not just me.
