July 2018 Update, Now Xbox Crashes with External Hard Drive

Last night I downloaded the July 2018 Xbox One Update. Now, when I turn on my Xbox One, it almost immediately crashes. After troubleshooting for about an hour and a half, I've determined that its my external hard drive (WD My Book 4TB) that is causing the
Xbox to shut down. I've had this hard drive plugged into my console for over 2 years with no previous issue. It worked fine last night after I downloaded the update. I turned the console off when I was finished with it last night. Now when I go to turn it
on today, it crashes unless I unplug the external hard drive. It works fine without the hard drive plugged in, except I have no games because they are all saved to the hard drive. As soon as I plug the hard drive in, crash. I'd really hate to have to replace
the hard drive and re-download all of my games, I would probably choose to just move on from Xbox if that was the case. Does anyone have any suggestions? Is this something that could potentially be addressed in a future update?

My xbox one s is running without a disc drive and stock fan

So I decided to reinstall the stock disc drive and updated my console but I have more gb storage was this from the update? Did the July 2018 update free up space?My console is running fine now with the new fan btw.

 

Anyone else having a problem with the new update

I have I have several friends that since they have gotten the new system update that their systems have crashed regularly and can only play DVDs or Blu-Rays every time they load a game Weather by disc or digital it will crash they
even move them to the internal hard drive and it still crashes others have moved them to the external hard drive and it still crashes.

Everything was working fine before this latest system update why now brake what was not broken

None of those helped. It can't even get far enough to try and detect the external storage because within 5 seconds of plugging the hard drive in, the console crashes.

 

I'm having a pretty similar issue since the update. My xbox will start with the external plugged in but won't actually play any games from it. Occasionally I'll make it to a loading screen but then the console just crashes like yours. I've spent two hours
with customer support and done three full factory resets now and they are saying it's my console but it was working fine until the update. So I'm glad to see you've posted this and I'm not the only person having this problem
