Joining Minecraft Realm on Mac

My boyfriend is sitting right next to me on his PS5 and I see him clicking "Invite" next to my Gamertag. No matter what I try (restarting computer, logging in and out of Microsoft account, closing out of and reopening Minecraft, checking that all of my Microsoft joining settings are set to "allow") my game still says "No pending invites."

I'm not sure if maybe it is just impossible to cross play between Mac and PS5, but we have been troubleshooting and reading posts for the last 2 hours.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate the help!!

Hi! My name is Ben a fellow member here in the community and hope you are doing well!

With regards to crossplay of Minecraft, it should work so long as you both have the same version of the game. For example Minecraft Bedrock edition, it would work if both of you have the same edition of the game.

For Mac, it seems Java edition is the only compatible version but if your partner is using the same then it should work well as reference to this link under "Platform" https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/java-or...

If you have the same edition of the game but invite is still not working, try to add him first as a friend via Xbox app by signing in the gamertag you are using on Minecraft. Once added, ask him to try inviting you again via the "Friends" tab.

The PC/MAC is separate from the other versions in terms of cross-play. As in the only way to join a game with console or mobile players (or Windows 10) is to play on a realm.

Console (Xbox and PS), Mobile and Windows 10 will all work without needing realms as long as your friends are online or on the same network as yourself.

It is only the PC/MAC version of the game that will require you to use realms to join each others game.

But his friends are on Xbox One edition and my son has the newest minecraft. Apparently they can't play together because they're on different versions?? That's what I'm trying to determine. They're not trying to join realms.
