I am sorry you are experiencing issues playing Astroneer. Here are some suggestions I found while searching through forums:

1. Check your Firewall settings: Make sure both you and your friend have the game approved through your firewall settings
   
2. If you are playing multiplayer, go straight to multiplayer after loading the game. Do not go to singleplayer, quit, then join multiplayer. If you are playing singleplayer and you want to play with others, close the game entirely before starting it again. This seems to help most players with this issue.

My friends haven’t been able to join me on ARK Survival Evolved (Non-Dedicated Session), Astroneer, Kingdom Two Crowns and there may be others I don’t remember.

The weird thing is that sometimes they can join me on those games and other times they can’t and it says “Failed to Connect”.

Astroneer is a great game.
