I've never changed my Xbox Live Gamertag before but i'm still being charged for it.

So let me clear some things up:

I've had my XBL account for over eight years.

My Gamertag is wholly original, I did not get it from one of those gamertag generators.

I've never changed my gamertag before

The gamertag i'm trying to change mine into is not claimed by anyone, at least not at the time i'm typing this down.

How did you think of your gamertag?

I've used this username well before I made my gamertag, so it was only fitting to make my gamertag this. I've never changed my gamertag and I never will. I've had my gamertag for 7 years

I can't change my Gamertag

I'm on my computer, I'm using IE, I've never changed my gamertag before...

Whenever I go to the page and type in my new gamertag and click "Check Availability", it says "Claim it" and gives me a green checkbox. But when I click on the "Claim It" box, it just sits for a second and then just says "This gamertag is available" over
and over... It never does anything or says its changed, and its still the same old one. Is the website broken?

The free gamertag change is only available if you were given a randomly chosen tag when you created your account and are changing that tag for the first time. Since your tag is jot a randomly chosen tag, but one of your choosing, you will have to pay if
you want to change it.

I've never changed mine either but after they did the revamp of everything it gave me my previous gamertag with #3178 at the end. I just accepted that, did that count as my change? If so that sucks because I don't want this gamer tag and couldn't think of something at the time.

Yep either that or make your name unique

It doesn't matter if you changed before

As mentioned if you have a custom gamertag you don't get a free name change

That only applies to people with randomly generated names which are created on new accounts NOT old accounts

With regards to gamertag change, if you have customized your gamertag before like choosing your preferred gamertag it will consume the free gamertag change. Normally if you didn't change your gamertag, it will show the system generated one. You will know it is system generated and not the one you customized due to its name sounding like an AI or bots name.

They told me to post on this thread so the Enforcement Team can help. There has never been an issue with that Gamertag before. I've held it since 2011 on Xbox and many other platforms. Only today the Gamertag was changed automatically. If it violated terms
of use and had to change my Gamertag then I surely have the option of choosing one for myself, not get given a generic one and be made to pay the charge of changing a Gamertag
