I've never changed my microsoft gaming gamertag, yet I'm being charged to change it

I've never changed mine either but after they did the revamp of everything it gave me my previous gamertag with #3178 at the end. I just accepted that, did that count as my change? If so that sucks because I don't want this gamer tag and couldn't think of something at the time.

Yep either that or make your name unique

It doesn't matter if you changed before

As mentioned if you have a custom gamertag you don't get a free name change

That only applies to people with randomly generated names which are created on new accounts NOT old accounts

With regards to gamertag change, if you have customized your gamertag before like choosing your preferred gamertag it will consume the free gamertag change. Normally if you didn't change your gamertag, it will show the system generated one. You will know it is system generated and not the one you customized due to its name sounding like an AI or bots name.

The free gamertag change is only available if you were given a randomly chosen tag when you created your account and are changing that tag for the first time. Since your tag is jot a randomly chosen tag, but one of your choosing, you will have to pay if
you want to change it.

If anyone is having this problem, I recommend getting in touch with a member of the support team. They were really helpful and managed to solve my problem in a matter of minutes.
