I've never changed my gamertag, but somehow they still charge me if I want to change it...

I've had an Xbox account before that, but I deleted it, 'cause I thought my Xbox days were over... boy was I wrong... On my previous account I've gotten an e-mail that said I could change my Gamertag, so I concluded that every account would get 1 free change.

Yes, you have a free gamertag change. But sincerely if the system is telling you that you need to pay
That means the free change has been used and unfortunately once this happens is not possible to get a free change or bypass the system to get another free change

I'm going to be honest. Here we can only guess a possible reason but we can't change the fact that unfortunately it seems that the free change was used

Exists the possibility that someone changed your gamertag without your permission / knowledge.

For example, my account was created in 2012 and I still have my free change after all this time.

You had to have picked your gamertag when you created your account though.

You only get the free change if you didnt pick your name at account creation and the name you have now is one you would have had to choose. It wouldn't have been a randomly generated name.
