    These online passes have been also been implemented on the PS3 so who/if you pay for connectivity is irrelevant. As far as I know the only games that feature these passes host there gaming infrastructure outside of the Microsoft offerings. (EA is 100% independent
    but games like Homefront feature dedicated servers covered by the pass)
