Your gamertag isnt a randomly generated one and had to have been picked. Unless something has changed over the years, then that counts as your free change

You only get the free name change if you didnt pick your gamertag when creating your account and were given a randomly generated one.

The gamertag you currently have is not a randomly generated one meaning you picked your gamertag at account creation. This counts as your free gamertag change. Any future gamertag changes will cost money.

I wouldn't be suprised if his friend did get a gamertag change as I have 1 free change sitting on my account atm. No idea why people say that there are no free changes when it clearly states on my account you can change your gamertag once for free.
