Ist this the correct adapter to update my controller wirelessly

If you have a PC, no need for an adapter, you can simply plug in the controller using a USB cable.

Click "Network Adapter" to expand the menu and right-click "Xbox One Wireless Adapter for Windows" > Update Driver Software > Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software"

This fixed the audio issue I was having with the controller connected via the Wireless Adapter (it worked via USB but not wirelessly until I manually updated said network adapter driver). Thanks!

Thank you for keeping us updated. I would like to provide some clarity here. The elite controller is not able to connect to your PC wirelessly on its own. That feature is only for Xbox one S and X standard controllers at the moment.

The only way to get an elite controller to connect wirelessly to your pc would be with the help of the

wireless adapter.

Thanks for not giving up on me!! So when I purchased the official Microsoft XBox headset it came with both the audio adapter and a usb lead that goes from the xbox to the controller. I assume that the reason they provided this additional lead is precisely
for the advice you are giving me ie to update the controller. Mine is XBox1s with wireless controller. I think I can update a controller using the usb lead or wirelessly. Anyway, what I had NOT done yet was to update the controller with just the audio adapter
plugged in as you advised so when you suggested that I thought BINGO!! So I did that. Sadly it did not work. So I have updated the controller alone, with audio adapter, with headset, with headset AND adapter. And I have done this wirelessly and with the usb
lead but to no avail. I am very grateful you have stuck with me so far and hope I have explained it a bit better. Im guessing we have hit a brick wall now??
