  1. Issues with separate windows and xbox live accounts

I am trying to get game pass to work on my PC but have ran into a problem with having separate accounts for windows and xbox live

My PC is generally setup with 'account 1', which has some purchases in the microsoft store and is used to authenticate my office 365 and onedrive subs.

My xbox is setup with 'account 2', which has a different email and password etc, and contains years of xbox purchases, including my game pass subscription.

I have downloaded the game pass app for PC and signed in with my xbox live account. It seems to work fine at first, showing friends list and messages etc, but wont let me install any games. It is saying I need to purchase gamepass, despite already having
game pass and it working fine on my xbox

It seems to want me to login to the windows store, as well as the rest of windows, with my xbox live account.

Of course when I do this it means that I can't access any purchases from 'account 1'. I tested with Microsoft office, and as soon as i change the Microsoft store login from account 1 to account 2, so that i can play gamepass, i can no longer access any applications
    purchased via account 1.

So my question, how do I set up game pass for PC without changing the account I sign in to the standard Microsoft Store? Surely it was foreseen that people would have separate accounts for Xbox live and Windows 10 store?

    :)

Issues with separate windows and xbox live accounts

    Hi G v zauBerBerg,

Thanks for your help. Adding extra accounts and linking as a family is starting to sound a little convoluted so I think I'm going to pass on gamepass. I don't understand why they've made it so complicated. On steam I simply sign into the steam launcher and
viola, all my games are playable. I don't have to go and link my steam launcher account to another steam store account via a separate steam store app, its all right there in the one launcher.

    Hi Eladio,

Thanks for your response. It seems a little strange that I can sign into the Xbox app and get friends lists and messages, but to authenticate games have to sign in to a completely different piece of software. It feels like this should be built into the launcher,
like every other game launcher available.

The family feature sounds a little convoluted and I don't want to get into linking accounts. It should be as simple as signing into the xbox launcher with my xbox live login and getting access to my games. I don't have to change any settings in windows to
get steam working, you just sign in and it works!

Since this is still in beta is there any way to give feedback to the team? I noticed another issue with the launcher in that I can't simply install games onto any drive I want, you have to make that drive the default install location for the full windows
installation! Well I don't want to install the games in the same place as windows apps! ...I want to have the majority of my games on a secondary drive and have some games and all windows apps on my main ssd.

Again, other launchers make it easy to install games on any drive you wish, on a game by game basis.

These 2 issues are deal breakers for me so I will most likely cancel game pass and stick with steam for the time being. Hopefully all this is sorted out before cross play starts getting added to games

    Hi key1010111101010,

sorry to say "You can not" :-(

The Store App is a part of the License check. Best way to handel this is to put two different user at the Computer (one for ccount 1 and another for account 2) and then

put them together in a Family
    .

Hope this helps and please keep us informed

    Hey key

Thank you for taking the time to post this on the Xbox Forums. We understand that you are seeking to use the benefits from the Microsoft account you use on your Xbox platform on the Microsoft account you use on your Windows 10 machine.

The short answer is, "There is, but you must be attached to a Family group." Only the account that purchased that specific service is able to use that service on their account.

A Microsoft account is an amalgamation of different service [Windows, Office, Xbox Outlook, Mixer, Skype, Bing, etc.] and thus this was intended to have all things Microsoft under a single account, to reduce the effort of managing several accounts.

The Xbox One platform allows you to share different Xbox subscriptions using the Home Xbox feature, however, there is no such option available on the Windows 10 platform, unless, you use a

    Family
    .

Keep in mind that even if you do use a Family, you will only be able to share a Office 365 Home subscription, not a Game Pass for PC subscription.

I hope this was able to clear up any confusion or turmoil this might have caused.
