    Issues with downloading Xbox from Windows Store


    New Microsoft laptop running windows 11 s mode. Came preinstalled with x box.

    Xbox app showed a game pass screen upon opening app. would not respond to tapping the button to sign in and claim. The other option was “maybe later” which I tapped, upon which the next screen Xbox was stuck in launching mode and never opened.

    Repaired and reset app from windows Settings which didn’t help. Uninstalled app from windows, and when in Microsoft store to reinstall app says I cannot.

    How to install again (which I assume is possible since it came pre installed)?

    Have you tried creating a temporary local account, then go to Windows Store and try to download something such as Ashpalt 9? This would let us know if it's a MS Account issue or OS issue preventing you from downloading from Windows Store or Xbox app.

    Do you receive an error message when trying to install the Xbox App?

    Have you tried to download it from the website?

    Cant install game

    Tried, but didn't work...

    By the way, i tried the following:

    • download exiting game (not game pass) from windows store, able to start the download
    • download game from Steam , able to start the download
    • download game from Epic, able to start the download
    • download game from Origin, able to start the download
    • download game from battle.net, able to start the download
    so to me it seems that only the xbox app is causing issues, is there a way to use the game pass without the xbox app? is there a way to download directly from the Windows store?

    Hey AltoHercules254,

    Try these steps if you haven't already - they fixed my download issues.

    • open windows app store (microsoft store)
    • log out from your primary account (in the microsoft store)
    • go to windows services
    • stop "windows update service"
    • erase contents of folder: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution
    • restart your computer
    • open windows app store, log in yourself
    • start xbox app (beta)
    • download game
