Issue with Xbox Gamertag Not Updating or Showing Correctly

Hi,

I’m having an issue with my Xbox gamertag. Recently, I tried to change it, but it’s not updating across all platforms. On some games and apps, it still shows the old gamertag.

Here are the details:

Problem Summary: Xbox gamertag not syncing or updating properly

Error Message: No specific error, just inconsistent display of gamertag

Device Info: Xbox Series S, also checked on Xbox app (Android)

What I’ve Tried:

Restarted console

Re-logged into Xbox app

Cleared cache

Waited over 24 hours for sync

Please help me understand why this is happening and how I can fix it. Thanks!

Hi Oliver, my name is Joel, I'm here to help you with any problems or questions you may have.

Oliver, what you observe is something totally normal, generally after between 5 to 8 days is that the gamertag finishes updating in all games and the entire platform, you will notice that the new gamertag will be shown below the old one during this time, then it will end up disappearing and only the new chosen gamertag will be shown.

If your Xbox gamertag isn't updating or showing correctly, it could be a delay in the system updating or a potential server issue. It can take up to 24 hours or even a week for the change to fully populate across all services. Time seems to have done the trick, as my gamertag is now showing correctly overnight. Thanks!

I see. I appreciate you trying all the steps I provided, Kalikospook. It looks like our best option here is to wait. Maybe on the next console update, it will show your new gamertag. So long as your new gamertag appears online and in game correctly, that should be fine.

Alternatively, you could try to sign in your account to a different console and see if it shows your new gamertag or not to further isolate the issue.

I beleive this issue is being looked at in the next update that is due, as i know they are working through a lot of the bugs with the achievments.

Does your score here on xbox.com show correctly? It won't show the games played correctly, however your gamerscore 'should' be correct
