    Issue with movies and other media being read on large external drives in media player.


    Okay so this is more of a question to see if anyone has ran into this issue and if there is a way to solve it.

    The drive is a WD 8TB easystore drive

    I bought a large external drive for my media im currently in a position where i can't get online and watch movies so i've converted all my movies to x264-x265 format to be able to watch them and listen to my music.....well everything that was put on the
    drive plays.......as soon as any media data gets put on the drive after 2048 GB it isn't able to be played in Media Player or VLC Beta. All media that is placed on the drive before it gets over 2048 GB plays fine.....i was thinking that its an issue because
    of it being a GPT partition. And i cant convert it to MBR partition because then it would make 5405 GB of space useless....

    I also tried making (4) 2 TB partitions on the GPT partition in hopes that it would work, But still it won't work once the data reaches past 2048 GB no matter what partition the data is copied to it. All data after that cant be read. on top of that it can't
    even see that there is any data on 3 of the partitions is says there is nothing on that partition.

    I also know the drive is fine because when i hook it up to my laptop i have no issues playing any of the data.

    So my question is... Is there something i am doing wrong or something that can make this work. Or is the issue due to the fact that the drive is to large and it being a GPT partition that is causing issues with the data not being able to be read within
    Media Playing and VLC Beta App?

    xbox one media player plays movies perfect on usb flash drive but on external hard drive the movies skip every minute or so anyone else have this problem?

    Movies are not played back from System Settings, Memory, but from the specific media playback panel.



    If the drive is not formatted/partitioned as FAT32 or HFS+, the 360 will not be able to read it. Many large external drives come partitioned/formatted as NTFS from the factory. The 360 cannot read NTFS volumes.

    What media player are you using? Do you have your movie files on an external HD? Have you re-installed the media player and unplugged the storage device?

    Is this the only app having issues?

    Give us more information on the app and if you have re-installed it and we'll go from there.
    Using xbox one’s media player.

    Movies are on my home server/computer.

    Tried uninstalling media player hard reboot then installed media player and no joy, same problem.

    No other issues with other apps.

    Why can't the ONE play the same media files as 360 ???

    If I had a DVD player in an external USB case, would the ONE be able to read the media then? would it not just see it as another external drive???

    Open the media player app. When you run the Media Player app, select your external USB drive, and then select the media that you want to play.

    Hello Luis,

    Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. The Xbox 360 does not have language packs for the media player. The console is reading the data for the movie from the USB drive. Thus, the movie must be in the desired language before it is placed in the
    USB drive. We hope this helps!
