Based on your description, you wanted to get back to the same Minecraft Java Username you have been using in the past. We understand that you were confused on how the Java username was used by someone else as result you have reached out to Mojang about this matter. However, you were asked to reach out to Microsoft instead because the issue seems to be related to Microsoft account. We would like to set your expectation that no one here in the community can checked any services linked to Minecraft as this game have their own support team.

As we tried to take a closer look with your description, this seems to be a gamer tag and Java username that was being describe. Let us check the difference between Xbox gamer tag and username for Minecraft Java Edition.

To update or change your username you will access it on Minecraft website. To get back to your concern, if the gamer tag and username still cause confusion, we suggest that you visit both Minecraft website and Xbox Profile page on a browser. In that way you can see if both accounts and compare if both were using the same name.

When you migrate your Mojang account to a Microsoft account, if the chosen/desired username for your Minecraft Java account has already been taken long before you may change it, it may indicate that someone else has already used the username and has continued to do so.

Yes, one of my Microsoft accounts DOES show up as owning the game. However it also has a "Profile Name" button under the Minecraft Java section on the My Games tab, and it tells me that my username is already taken when I enter the username I was using on my Java account before migration.

For us to be on the same page, may we know when did you migrated your Minecraft account to Microsoft account?

We would like to show you a timeline of the migration process so you will be aware of what could have happened to your Minecraft Java:

• 10/21/2020 - Minecraft Support first announce migration of Java to Microsoft account. (You will get to keep your Minecraft Java username.)

This allows you to access to both Java and Bedrock editions and unmigrated Mojang accounts will not be able to sign in to Minecraft.net or the Minecraft Launcher to migrate.

Sorry to hear about what happened, however, since your dad used the same Microsoft account to migrate the Mojang account - technically it became one since Microsoft integrated both Minecraft Java and Minecraft Bedrock through the years as they slowly migrated everyone.

I understand that it may worked fine because Java and Bedrock were running separately. But now, the Microsoft account system treats gamertag as the main identity across all platforms.

So your username on Java and gamertag on Bedrock are treated as one account, not two. With this, there's no way to remove or separate them at this point since your father migrated your Mojang account to a Microsoft account that was being on console.
