Issue connecting Xbox one to Windows 10 app over college apartment internet

I recently have been trying to connect my Xbox one to my Windows 10 laptop, as I would like to keep the console in the living area, while also being able to stream it to my laptop for personal use. I've gone through all the steps to set it up and tried
troubleshooting it in many ways, but nothing seems to work, whether though ethernet or wifi. When I go to connect, there is no option to connect and when I try to enter the IP address, the app says it can not locate my Xbox. I can connect and stream by using
my phones hotspot feature, but I can't keep that on for long periods of time and the connections shaky anyway. Since I'm living in campus apartments, I can not access the router or add my own. I'm just looking for some direction, any help is appreciated.

    :)

  2. Xbox on Windows 10 "needs an internet connection."

Every time I try to connect to the Xbox app on Windows 10 it says it needs an internet connection even though the PC is connected to the internet.

Does ANYONE at Xbox care about the useless wireless dongles they are selling?

No, you are part of the problem. Stop saying its a driver issue. The drivers are fine and all controllers work for other games apart from the xbox app. Please stop with this nonsense.

Are you connected to the same router (hub), set your IP manually , and then see if you can PING the Xbox from your Laptop.

Most Dorm networks will restrict network traffic so it is only used for educational purposes, so you may want to see with the IT folks if they are actively blocking some ports.

Have you confirmed this is working on a non doem network first to make sure its not a configuration/firewall issue with your laptop.

Another thing would be to check your firewall settings, as your most likely now on a public network, not a private one, and it could be blocking those ports now on your Laptop.

I ran into an issue similar to this at school. I'm guessing here, but from my experience, I believe the issue lies in the fact that your laptop has greater network security privileges since you are signed in to the network on that device - privileges your
Xbox cannot enjoy. More often than not data transfers over the network, like streaming games, movies, etc, are limited to devices that are attributed to a user, like the laptop you signed in to access the network. So in order to give your Xbox the privileges
it needs you need to do a little trick.

Plan A: Try copying the Mac Address from your PC and using it on your Xbox. Google how to find it on your PC and how to replace it on your Xbox. Should take 2 minutes to do. Mac IDs are an identifier used by networks to track connections. This works by tricking
the network that your Xbox is your PC.

Plan B: Buy your own router and plug it into the Ethernet port in your apartment. Set up your own hot spot and connect your devices to it via Ethernet or WiFi. This is a much more effective solution than connecting with college networks. More bandwidth and
speed for like $40. **You may have to do the Mac Address trick from Plan A to get the Xbox to connect.

Stay in school. Don't do drugs. Brush your teeth.

    Hi,

One possible reason as to why you're encountering issues with connecting the controller while streaming using the Xbox app on Windows 10 is due to an outdated device driver. Other reasons are corrupted profile data and compatibility issues with the controllers
    and your Windows 10 PC.

We suggest checking if there are updates available for your Xbox controllers on Windows 10. Refer to

How to update your Xbox One Controller on Windows
    10 for the steps.

Note: Make sure to restart your console and your Windows 10 PC after updating.

Do get back to us with the results. We'd be glad to provide you additional assistance.

My xbox loses the connection when I am broadcasting with the windows 10 xbox app.

    Hey there,

How is your Xbox One console and your Windows 10 PC connected to the internet? If you can, we recommend having a wired connection for both your Xbox One console and Windows 10 PC for the best experience. If the issue continues while both devices are wired
in, I recommend a Factory Restore on your Xbox One console to see if that helps eliminate the disconnection issue. This is a fairly painless step, just be sure to select
'Reset and keep my games & apps'.
