Is this an Xbox console issue or ISP issue?

I frequently disconnect randomly from online games on my xbox series S despite having zero lag aside from these abrupt disconnects. Where I’m confused is that I disconnect/freeze out of the games I’m playing, but am still connected to Xbox Live, remain in my party chat, my streams stay up, etc. Only the multiplayer game disconnects.

I am on ethernet and never had these issues until a few months ago. My NAT type is open. I tried setting a reserved/static IP and that did not work. I tried port forwarding and that did not work. I have restarted the console multiple times, done power cycles, uninstalled games, and they still disconnect randomly. I have changed the port from automatic (3074) to manual and that did not work. I connected it to a completely different router in the same house on the same network via ethernet and tried that, and still disconnected. I have factory reset the console multiple times both with and without keeping games/apps installed.

After troubleshooting, Xbox support said I need to send it in for check/repair (which is $200+ since my warranty expired) and the price is the same even if they determine its not an xbox issue, and there’s nothing to fix. I went for a consultation at best buy and they raised a point that many times during lagout a lot of games will have the users running in place or doing something, whereas when I freeze the game literally just remains frozen until the disconnect message pops up. I’m just not sure what to do. My ISP says nothing is wrong with out internet and has run multiple tests also, so I feel like I’m at a dead end with no fix.

Again, I stress that while I disconnect/freeze out of the games I’m playing, I am still connected to Xbox Live, remain in my party chat, my streams stay up, etc. Only the multiplayer game disconnects. Everyone else in the game I am playing with is still connected fine (it is not the game servers). I’m not sure what I am having these issues or what is the cause

Hi there! Sorry to hear about the issue. Let's do our best to get this sorted out.

There's a possibility that it's an issue with your ISP or networking devices. To further isolate the issue, try connecting your console to a different network or ISP. You could use a wireless network like mobile data hotspot and see if it changes anything. Or try a different router brand.

Also, try to play an online game that isn't multiplayer if it does the same thing.

80ms is pretty good seeing your latency to the servers are in Washington. To be honest I don't see a problem with that at all. Its probably better than most East coasters. (mine is always 93-96)

When you do speedtest on your desktop are you using the same server location as the Xbox?

I don't know if you actually have a problem.

I havnt switched to a wa server on desktop no, but the main issue thats tipping me to connection is standing point blank ads not getting hits, and actually seeing every kill feed jump around, in a few matches ive actually had to be still for 15-20 seconds
to get char to stop bouncing around the match.

is this just a cod ghost issue then?

eh not sure what the deal is, ill be moving to a larger city soon which may help, might just go out get a gigabyte router anyways when I do.

but the only thing I have running on my network is my phone and xbox, even if I have phone off doesnt change. ive done this test with 3 360 my xbone laptop and phone and it never changes. but thank you for the input.

I did a speedtest on desktop took me a few tries but found condointinternet as a server in seatle sadly on it gave me an 80 ms ping but my down/upload were dramatically killed, but guess its totally plausible that my connection is fine and maybe im experiencing
a different issue either with cod or with getting connected to slower people (though with these "dedicated servers" its supposed to be I shouldnt notice if others are slow correct?( wasnt that the whole point of them was to stop slow people from affecting
fast people in any way))

I don't have this issue playing CoD. It may well be your connection or router not handling QoS well? Do others use the broadband connection while you game? phones, streaming etc... In my household it seems the internet is constantly being used, so a
good router with QoS work well in those situations. Just a thought. As I said before I'd love to see 40ms latency. :d

Go ahead and try www.speedtest.com and www.pingtest.com and check it against the Washington Servers...it should match your Xbox One closely.

Another thought, are you on Comcast? If so ditch the wireless, and go wired per their own recommendation. Actually I would try wired and see if its just the signal strength all together :d Well at least you have some ideas to try!
