Is there a way to download games directly to an external hard drive on an Xbox 360.

Yesterday, I hooked my 360 back up to download some of my games again. I figured it would be nice to have them all in one place, especially since some are not backwards compatible.

I knew the Xbox team added external hard drive support (up to 2TB) on the 360 a couple years ago, so I plugged in a 1TB drive into the console and did the format.

It works fine, and the extra storage space is great. However, I've only been able to move the installed games from my internal drive to the external, and that process can take awhile depending on the number of games and / or the size of each game.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to download games directly to the external instead of downloading them to the internal, and then moving them over to the external?

Hi,

The exact method is a little hazy, but as I understand it, you'll need to start one download, then add another to the queue. The second item (the one queued) can have the download location changed from within the Xbox 360 mini guide.

So, choose to download something and then add the actual content you want to download to the external drive to the Queue. Change the install location on queued item and then cancel the first first download. The content that was queued will now download to the external storage.

Oh interesting, thanks for the tip. That's way better than downloading the game, and then transferring it over.

Hey there A Witty Retort!

Are you moving the game off of your Xbox onto the external hard drive, or are you installing directly onto the hard drive? If you are moving, I would suggest Uninstalling
and Reinstalling the game. When downloading the game back, have it download directly to your external hard drive rather than the Xbox One.

Thanks, buddy may I know if you're trying to install the game to your internal xbox 360 storage?

If not, please select that drive to install the games, or do the opposite.

Use an external hard drive to install the games there.

By the way, you purchased the games directly from the Xbox 360 store?

Or you did it via Xbox.com page?

Are you downloading directly to your internal hard drive? If so, maybe try downloading to an external hard drive to see if it works.
