Yes! Absolutely there is. It is called the Xbox App. It basically allows you to access your account from a phone or PC and can allow you to emulate games and use all the social features of Xbox. You can join party's and use messages. (Used to use it a lot if my headset would break)

You can also connect your system to Discord and use that!

I have been having this issue since yesterday (April 3rd). I can see that I am online, can view my online friends, but cannot connect to xbox live.

ive had my kinect since christmas, as alot of people have said the games arent the best usualy just wiiports but still fun to play with friends while drunk etc, ive used it more for the voice commands on the likes of zune and last fm wich is very cool, its
also good for playing splitscreen online games ie left for dead and blops, me and my friend can both talk to my friends online using the kinect mic instead of it just being me able to talk to friends and ignoring the friend i have with me so in that sense
its very handy... i do hope the games will improve and since all that ms keeps shoving in our face is kinect stuff then i have no doubt that they will with the likes of mass effect 3 and ghost recon using kinect in some way or another i think over time its
going to become less of an extra optional and more of a needed optional wich may be good or bad but from my view its good as i have it and it has improved my "xbox expirence" especialy when i cant find my controler and want to skip a crappy song on last fm

I didn't even notice themes at all. Good one! I did however noticed the storage issue that you mentioned. It's in mentioned in the main thread. Another feature that I noticed is that when view friends it does display the ones online followed by the offline
friends. You have to change the view to online only. I would like to see this the way it is on the 360. Online friends first followed.by offline friends.
