Is there a reason why DVD playback has been deteriorating per patch?

I don't have any DVDs but the bluray player is quite laggy as well. Choppy as hell in 4k on the xbox one s.

I came here because I'm at my wits end. Not because I didn't try everything I could discover by searching first!

This isn't an isolated issue and I sincerely don't believe my dedicated DVD / BRDVD player from 2011 still performs and my 4yr old XBOX One S, selectively fails to play standard DVD. -- Are you suggesting the build quality of the XBOX One S, is substandard
to a AU$89 player?

Given I can play 4KUHD / BRDVD / Game discs discs without issue, then I can only surmise there is a problem with the firmware, app or both, where DVD is concerned. -- I'm even willing to bring up the possibility this 'selectivity' is possibly intentional.
-- How would I know?

Afterall, standard DVD still has the largest installed library of films in any home collection. There absolutely shouldn't be a conflict of interest due to streaming services I already pay a yearly access to.

Its because dvd will be phased out just like vhs . Blu ray and dual layered discs are our future.

Lol, I wouldn't know.. I've never tried to put a VHS tape into a disc slot.. its not something I would do. -- fyi, I read your response out at work, during break. You had 170 odd miners laugh at you. Just so you know. (Among the other things some said).

.. its just a digital format mate. Discs didn't stop being discs..

At least I now understand why the Disc player is an app and not hard coded. Its just a way for MS to manage access to a feature, every disc reader / recorder performs.

It's ok. I went and bought a player for $237; which is 237 reasons why I'll think twice about selecting an MS / XBOX for a
media solution, in future.

Sorry to hear it. However, if the console is years old then the issue may just be with age. As things get older they do tend to wear down. You can try holding the power button on the console for 10 seconds till it shuts down to see if that helps.

If it does not you could also try a factory reset. There's an option to keep installed games and apps so you won't need to redownload them and your saves will be safe on the Cloud.

I don't have that problem. Its just the DVD's, where the library is largest. -- That said, the reviews section of the Blu ray app is chokka-blok full of complaints, on XBOX one.

I didn't have any problems, until I first posted. Update, by update it just got worse.

Unfortunately, the quality of streaming is generally terrible; and even where its decent? -- they are whopping amounts of data!

Until these companies can somehow eradicate "data caps" or find some way to provide great quality for next to no data. Then streaming films puts a huge cost premium on the user. Watching your movie is now more expensive than its ever been!

The speed issue fixed itself with improving technology. Formerly being able to download purchases, was a compromise. For whatever reason you can't do that anymore; which seems redundant where purchasing titles is concerned!

As it stands, you now pay a subscription to the platform, a subscription to the streaming service, premium internet, rental or purchase of a title. -- I'd rather just buy an expert quality disc, and watch it any time I like.

Obviously "not on XBOX " and thats the message I'm recieving here. Unless they want to change my mind?
