    Is there a limit to number of files on HDD with XBOX One


    I'm using an external HDD for media/movies on XB1. But it only shows half of the files on the drive. Is there a limit to the number of files?

    I couldn't find any info on this. Thank you.

    Hi Jim!
    There's no limit for the number of files, I also have an external HDD connected and I see everything there's loaded (we are talking about files supported by Xbox) ;)

    Yes they are all supported files. They are in separate folders by show and the movies are organized by letter (A-G, H-O, N-S, T-Z). There are 3,600 files. It shows the files in 6 of the folders but the rest are empty. I've tried using 3rd party file explorers
    and media players and it's the same thing for all apps.

    Should they be organized in folders in a certain way?

    It's NTFS. It shows some files but not all. There are no files over 4 GB.

    The only thing I can think of is if the hard drive is formatted a certain way, it may not show files above 4 GB. If you can, plug the hard drive into a computer and find a specific file above that limit and see if it shows up on the Xbox.

    Not use a flash drive. Buy a HDD, not a flash drive. Flash storage breaks quickly, as it has a limited number of read/writes. It's slow, it's not reliable, and you get errors with extremely large files.
