My Xbox S is acting strange lately, my controller is always plugged into my xbox and today it was working and then right in the middle of the game. It just turned off so I unplugged it then plugged it in and try again and now it’s not even turning on so I moved over to my old Xbox one and it works just fine on there.

I tried all usb ports on my series s and when i use the back two my controller will buzz as if it turned on but is still turned off

    :)

Is there a bug or defect with the xbox series usb ports and wired controllers?

Hi Naevis, my name is Rodrigo. I'm an Independent Advisor and a member of the Microsoft community and I'd love to assist you today.

I am sorry to hear that.

No, there isn't a bug with the USB Ports, this is not normal.

Make sure to remove your controller batteries whenever you are using the USB cable.

First, let's try a simple fix, please, power cycle the console and test the USB ports again.

To do it, follow these steps:

Turn off your console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.

Unplug the console's power cable. Wait 60 seconds.

Important Be sure to wait at least 60 seconds. This step resets the power supply.

Plug the console power cable back in.

Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.

Test the controller and the ports.

If you have another controller, it's a good idea to test it too, to ensure the issue is not with one controller.

If the issue persists, I recommend you submit a repair request.

Please, register your device on this link: https://support.xbox.com/help/hardware-network/warranty-service/register-your-product

Then, fill out the repair form: https://account.microsoft.com/devices/select-device-for-repair

You can check the warranty terms here: https://support.microsoft.com/help/...ce-plans-and-terms-conditions-for-your-device

If your device is out of warranty, you can check the costs here:

    I hope this helps.

    Xbox one x controllers disconnecting

If the controller is wired in and you continue to have issues then it could very well be a flaw in the USB port you're using.

Have you attempted to plug it into any other USB ports out of curiosity?

If you do have a defective port through I would suggest attempting an exchange from the retailer from which you purchased it.

    XBOX controller, to PC

The original Xbox controller uses a USB wiring, but Microsoft put a different type of connection for the controller. The only way to use an original Xbox controller on your PC is to strip the wires and connect them to a USB wire, by simply matching the colors.
It's very simple, as it's the same USB wiring, just a different connection port.

Xbox 1 controller not connecting to PC

    Hi,

What battery are you referring to? Are they actually re-chargeable?

The Xbox One controller should work on a PC while wired with or without a battery. If no battery is present, the USB port itself will power the controller.

As for ports, it won't matter what port you use. While there are indeed different types of USB ports, the Xbox One controller will work on any USB A port as it only needs USB 2.0 which have been standard for over 15 years now. All USB ports are backwards
    compatible with previous versions.

There could be an issue with your controller cable. Have you tried a different one? For the controller to function when wired the cable must be able to send and receive data. Any USB to Micro USB cable rated as a 'Sync and charge' will work with the Xbox
One controller. Other than that the port on the controller could be damaged.

    Xbox controller issue

In your concern above you said that it is not the controller and not the usb wire because you tried a friend's wire and controller and it still didn't work? By elimination the trouble would be with the xbox then.

Try switching ports, then while plugged in on the usb unplug your xbox wait about 1 minute plug back in the xbox and see if the xbox senses the controller. If not something could be wrong with the port(s) on the xbox. My guess at first is that the port on
your controller got short circuited though.
