Is Series X/S OPTIMIZED irritating anyone else?

Control, werewolf, callisto protocol, cod cold war, crisis 2... among others all have X/S optimized versions that can be played from hhd or it was not automatically updated to the optimized version so I had the choice where to store and play it.

You should really direct your questions towards the game developers/publishers. Those games you listed were likely directly made 'Gen 9 aware' by the developer which gave them the ability to run with Series X features, but without the need to run them directly off internal storage or the expansion card.

I know what you might be thinking, this is some cynical ploy to sell more expansion cards. But ultimately it would be up to the developer/publisher to make their games Gen 9 aware rather than just force the upgrade to the Series X optimised version that can only be installed on the faster storage.

90% of games i play are in 4K on PC and i have those running off an 8TB HDD, no issues with loading in assets at all, a load of poppycock that platter drives are not quick enough to load the assets, that only applies if the assets are being streamed into the game which applies to very few games. i play everything in 4K 120hz on PC these days and have zero issues with games loading in, there is about 5 games that i know off that work better with SSD and i have them installed on NVME.

It is just Microsofts way of forcing an upgrade, the games should just be scalable like on PC.

People had exactly the same opinion last generation when they were told they could no longer play games off of discs and have to install them. Of course they were ignoring the fact that PC users have been required to install games since the early 90s

Platter hard drives cannot load 4K assets quickly enough, the games are designed with the hard drive in mine. Video games are a series of hundreds of spinning plates, and if one of them crashes typically it takes the whole ship with it. When data does not arrive on time, it holds up the entire system.

I understand your frustration well and I completely agree with your point of view, but unfortunately there is no such option at the moment.

The choice option is not available at the moment, maybe in some future update it can be selected if you want to download the upgrade or not.

And yes. I have games that come with optimized and unoptimized versions. And yes, those same games will play from a hhd. I'm playing callisto protocol from my hdd as we speak.

Still shows that there is no reason for incompatibility issues from last generation to new.

My complaint is my lack of choice in games I already owned being updated for no added value in game play forcing me to use limited space for games that should truly require it. IE: NEXT GEN EXCLUSIVE GAMES.
