Account has been hacked. Account recovered and security reset, however the fraudulent transaction made will not be refunded as it is a gift code which has been redeemed and therefore I am being told that the refund policy will not allow a refund.

Is this correct? As this is a fraudulent transaction how can I be held to the T&Cs of the purchase when I did not agree to them as I did not make or authorized the purchase?

It will be interesting if what I am being told by the 4 different chat box advisors is correct. I can not find anything about fraud on the Microsoft website, it is not even a refund option.

I cannot believe that Microsoft would not take action against either the fraudster or the owner of the account which used the fraudulently obtained gift code. Is there a process where this can be escalated for Microsoft to take action?

    :)

I have worked for different companies including ones that do millions of dollars of transactions. While it is unfortunate that your account was hacked companies that had the purchase made from them are not held liable for those transactions. What would
normally happen is the institution that the payment went through would cover the loss through their own insurance. Example would be someone steals a debit card number and goes and spends all of your money at a walmart. Even though the fraud was committed at
Walmart it would not be held responsible to return the money to you. The bank would have to file it under their own insurance then what ever is recovered through insurance would be sent back to you through your bank. So in your case if it was through PayPal
they would need to be the ones to file it. I do not know what agreement PayPal has with anyone or what their own policy is or how they handle fraud when it comes through on one of their transactions. The one thing I can tell you is with most companies they
are not going to refund your money. Its not just a microsoft thing. Since the fraud itself was not committed against microsoft and was committed against you Microsoft can really only do so much. Also I do not know what microsoft or PayPal policies are in relation
to fraud or this type if situation, just letting you know from a stand point of someone who has dealt with credit card, debit card and gift card fraud.

Thanks this was escalated and reviewed by the "Advance advocate "
who have investigated and confirmed fraud which I can use to request a charge reversal from my payment institution.

Been told Paypal wont refund as responsibility of Microsoft to reverse charge as under billing agreement. Another 1.5hrs talking to a chat box with a team who have neither the power or tools to be able to reverse the charges. Policy within Microsoft prevent
    refund.

Makes me think the refund process has been designed to prevent fraud being reversed.

Not good service been over 5hours on this issue already.
Have you been given any case numbers and go higher up in paypal call them chat boxes get you no where they are normaly bots and best case a lower teir of support

    Hello

This is definitely a strange situation. I'm sorry y****d request a call back from support and speak to someone directly. They may be able to explain things better and direct you on what to do next.

You can request a free call-back by signing on at
https://support.xbox.com/contact-us and selecting Billing. When prompted to speak to a virtual agent, decline it. After answering a few more
questions, you should get the option to request a callback.
