Is Microsoft aware that we cannot play xCloud over 5G on iOS due to overheating and device...

Steps to reproduce this are to take any 5G capable iPhone and, using cell data, run a stream. After 3-5 minutes the iPhone will begin to overheat and the device will throttle itself entirely, slowing down the connection and the browser itself.

Microsoft really needs to address this.

Edit: On your iPhone 12 or 13, go into cellular options and set 5G from Auto to On to force 5G usage, and allow more data as well. Then try the stream.

    :)

I wanted you to know that I used the remote play option from the Xbox app itself on 5G a few minutes ago and it worked flawlessly. The fact that Cloud Streaming on the Safari platform doesn't work but remote play works through the Xbox app means this is conclusively a problem that Microsoft and Apple need to sort out between each other.

This has nothing to do with my Apple device itself being "faulty" when it is actually completely fine according to full diagnostic done by Apple themselves, it has nothing to do with the 5G modem inside the phone, it has nothing to do with my cell service. This isn't a "go to your cell provider" problem or a "go to Apple" problem. For the record to the other commenters, I have an unlimited plan that doesn't not throttle, and I regularly test these speeds and they're consistent with what's advertised.

This is an Apple/Microsoft problem, a problem exclusive to specificially Cloud Streaming through xbox.com/play on a web browser on iOS with 5G. There is something inherently wrong with either encoding/decoding the stream itself, or something wrong with use of the Safari WebKit behind every web browser on iOS.

To those of you saying "It's your phone." It's not. It truly isn't and me and many other end users would have something to say about that. Your individual case where you say it works fine but it doesn't for so many other doesn't not negate the existence of mine, or our problem in this case, just because it works for you.

To anyone else having this issue, just use remote play for the time being. It works.

There’s at least a base level of code to make it function and receive inputs in real-time and return it all. If it’s just a stream, why does it turn mine and other people’s iPhones into toasters? 5G runs hot yeah, but it’s a constant download and upload of data whereas a stream on HBO or YouTube just buffers the video then stops transmitting data since it was all downloaded. Something is not right. Phones can handle that constant stream yet it’s not working right with xCloud.

Android does not have this issue. I used to play on a OnePlus 8 without issue back when 5G was just emerging.

I started up the app and played a game. I know where the CPU, the modem, and the battery are in the phone. If they’re heating up, putting your fingers in those spots will quickly expose a problem. So I played for five minutes, using touch controls, then reported back. I didn’t feel any abnormal heading over any other time I’ve used X cloud

Again I suggest taking it to the Apple store. You’re most likely culprit as the other person said, is a bad 5G modem

Hmm…did you play for at least 5-10 minutes on 5G data? What was your method?

Just tried it on my 13 pro, no abnormal heat or throttling. Suggest you take it to Apple
