If your laptop has only one HDMI port it most certainly will only be HDMI out. Which means you can't use the laptop as a display. About 99% of laptops are HDMI out only.

It's safe, but not all laptops are capable of that. Most laptops only have an HDMI-out connection not an In.

As per the information given there and the above from Smwutches. You can't connect a console (any console) to a laptop directly via HDMI. HDMI ports on laptops are for output only. A few years ago there were some PC/laptops with both HDMI out and and in. But, I don't know of any machines made in the past few years that have this functionality. It is, as said above, extremely rare.

Even larger generally more expensive laptops with both HDMI or Mini DP plus or USB C/Thunderbolt ports are still only input only connectors. They can not be made to work the other way around.

You can stream either from your own console or via Xcloud on Gamepass to pretty much any laptop (even the Chromebook can do it). But streaming is not the same as playing your games directly on the console. And, in any case, you'll still need to connect your chosen console to some type of display to set up streaming. In fact, just to set up a console out of the box needs a display.

To play directly on the console you're going to need a TV or a Monitor.

Also...if i can safely connect via my laptop...is it safe to assume I an connect via my Xbox?
