Does that mean it is now possible to "correct" the birthdate on a Xbox Gamertag? Or is that "only" the Microsoft Account birthdate change, that does not alter the Gamertag birthdate?

This only changes Microsoft Account's birthdate and it did not affect Xbox Gamertag's birthdate.

It's not possible to request a gamertag to be freed up. There's also no way to know for sure how inactive they've been since the account can be used on multiple Microsoft services.

If I was you, and I know my account hasn’t been compromised or there is no possibility its associated with a different PSN, I’d contact Mojang.

Yea I want to make an account on Xbox but the gametag I want is taken the gamertag is All caps and it looks like the account hasn’t been active since 2011 because the last game the played is nba2k11 and the account has zero gamerscore and I wanted to see if I can claim the username because the account hasn’t been active in a long time.
