    Is it possible to make a xbox partition of an external drive


    I have a 2TB external drive that I use on my xbox. I want to have roughly 500GB of it partitioned so that I can use it on my Windows PC(NTFS) and the rest partitioned so I can use it on my xbox series X(yes I know some games can't be played from there, but that's not the issue I'm having). When I format it on my xbox, I am unable to make another partition without reinitializing the disk and when I reinitialize the disk on my computer and make the two partitions, I don't get an option to make only the 1 partition a xbox partition when it is inserted with my xbox and it is not recognized as a valid storage device for games.

    I've had a 1TB External HDD Partitioned for a deticated 16GB Xbox partition & when the Xbox Console configured it, the other partitions were no longer recognised in Windows & to get it to recognise, you have to format the drive again in Windows for FAT32...
    So how is the answer, Yes..?? or are you using a program, to look at your Xbox files on your computer..??

    I would format it on it on a Mac or PC making sure it's all one large partition since some external drives come with hidden partitions containing drivers and other software.

    The Format Hard Drive function is also there so that you can format external USB 3.0 HDD's with the appropriate Xbox partition for saving games etc. By default, a new external HDD would come with a FAT or NTFS partition which cannot be used for installing
    Xbox games. A NTFS partitioned external hard drive can be used however for extended Game DVR clips.

    There is a unique format done to an external drive connected to an Xbox system rendering it incompatible with standard PC's. The only way you could possibly "share" the drive would be to partition it prior to connecting to the console and using only a
    partition ( I have not tried this and do not know if it is possible). Even if this did work you would have to move it back and forth it would not work as a network share.

    As long as the Xbox recognises your external hard drive then you can use it for Xbox storage. However, regardless of it's size, you can only use 32GB of it's storage. Making new partitions won't work as the console will only see the primary partition.
