Is it possible to have Xbox gold/ultimate monthly subscription but not let my kiddo charge...

You can definitely manage this wherein he’ll be needing to ask for your approval in making purchases. This way you’ll be able to prevent any unauthorized purchases.

Make sure that he is added as a member on your family group (https://account.microsoft.com/family) and once done, you can manage it by following the steps below:

“1. Sign in to https://account.microsoft.com/family.

2. Find the child's name and select More options > Spending

3. Under the Ask to buy section, switch Needs organiser approval to buy things to On. “

Thanks! So I’ve set all this up, and now his account won’t add the subscription. I can see the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on his Microsoft account….but it wont allow recurring billing.

to play online on the xbox you need to have a monthly subscription to gold, or gamepass ultimate.

My understanding though, Is that as soon as I purchase the Ultimate Subscription it just converts my remaining Gold value into Ultimate time. Therefore, not charging me for several months, but then converting to monthly upon completion. So while it won't
be a problem for a while it'll just end up being a future me problem when I get a monthly subscription down the track that I'm trying to avoid.

So I suppose to let ultimate finish first and then add a xbox gold then will it still convert the ultimate same months to the gold or do I still have to pay the next charge in order to have ultimate.

If I wanted regular xbox live gold I will have to cancel the ultimate subscription.
