Is it possible to get packet loss that exceeds 100%?

    Hi there,

As the subject states, is it possible to get packet loss that exceeds 100%?

I play the game PUBG with a group of friends and have experienced some pretty high packet loss, such as 70-75%. When I hit packet loss this high, I always lag out of the game and have to reconnect. I have a friend that complains that he is getting numbers
that exceed 100% packet loss (he recently said 112%), which I didn't think was possible. I have contacted a few Microsoft/Xbox support agents and have asked if it is technologically possible for someone's packet loss to exceed 100%, and I have gotten the same
answer of "No" from every agent. They have stated that if someone has 100% packet loss, they would have loss complete connection to the game, sever, etc. So I ask again, is it possible to exceed 100% packet loss? I have done a bunch of research today to try
to find some examples, pictures, videos, some sort of proof.. and I just can't find anything besides a handful of other players complaining about packet loss %'s that exceed 100%.

This is such a silly question, but I'd really like to know if it is technologically possible or if people are just exaggerating that they have reached such numbers.

    Thanks for your time!

    :)

    Hey there Zac.

Normally it's not possible to have more than 100% packet loss, and if someone is experiencing that, they will have no connection to the game, or the server.

If for some strange reason the packet loss does go over 100%, its most likely because the console is still attempting to send requests to the servers, and the packets are just failing on the way there. therefor being lost. But this is really an anomaly and
    doesnt normally happen.

PUBG may be having issues with their servers that might affect packet loss to or from your console but only for that game (eg the server farm may not be able to handle the incoming load from all of the game clients and therefore drops packets). The network
debug statistics may be incorrectly interpreting the data and returning/displaying a value higher than 100%. Given many of the other problems in PUBG...this is your most likely answer about the issue.

As others have said, if you truly had 100% packet loss of your connection then you wouldn't be able to do anything.

    Good luck!

"They have stated that if someone has 100% packet loss, they would have loss complete connection to the game, sever, etc. So I ask again, is it possible to exceed 100% packet loss?"

You would not have any connection to the internet, let alone XBLive, if packet loss is 100%. Connection relies on the ability of packets, information data blocks, for lack of a better term, to recognise and acknowledge the data has been sent and received
    correctly, ie no corruption.

Edit.. Data showing 100% packet loss has to be a result of local internal corruption of the processors, and would require a restart.

100% packet loss is the maximum that is possible. However, occasionally it is possible that there may be a bug causing the packet loss to appear more than 100%, but this is uncommon. The maximum is 100%.
