Is It Possible to Buy DLC Before Game?

I'm a bit curious about buying games versus buying DLCs. I understand perfectly well that you can't play a DLC without having the game that uses it, but what about buying a DLC before buying the game? Let's say, hypothetically, I wanted to buy Alien: Isolation
but start with buying the Lockdown DLC before actually getting the game. If I buy a game's DLC before buying the game, will the DLC be saved into my account? And then, when I do buy the game and install it into my Xbox One, will the DLC be installed as well
since I will have bought it beforehand?

I realize that this may be a silly question, but it's one that I've been asking myself for years; and it's been driving me nuts.

Thank you for your post. If you purchase DLC before purchasing a game, the DLC will be added to your account but it will not be downloadable or accessible until you install the game it is intended for.

If it's possible I would recommend buying any upgrade dlc for the game if its available before buying a new copy.

Then is it possible to buy the dlc on a disc seperately from the game and install it on the console?

The DLC for that game was delisted a while ago so it's no longer possible to buy any DLC. If any of the DLC is on disc 2, the game should give you the option to install it from there if I remember correctly.

it currently isn't possible to buy xbox live gold with the currency on your account, it can be used to buy games, movies, dlc, avatar items etc.

There is no info available if it will be possible in the future
